SYBA PCI-Express 4 Port Serial Card Model SY-PEX-4S
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

3 out of 5 eggs Another report that the PC won't shut down 11/01/2009

This review is from: SYBA PCI-Express 4 Port Serial Card Model SY-PEX-4S

Pros: Works as advertised, gives the 4 COM ports.

Cons: Driver install not intuitive. Requires multiple reboots under Win2k3 server.

We've tried other cards from SIIG, SYBA, Startech - this is the only one that doesn't let your PC shutdown correctly.

The supposed disabling of ACPI isn't acceptable, as most modern operating system won't boot in correctly without ACPI to be set to on.

Other Thoughts: A product to avoid if you don't want headaches. If you have time to kill, this gives a great price point.

HighPoint RocketRAID 2320 PCI-Express x4 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) RAID Controller Card

3 out of 5 eggs Fair hardware, bad software 09/13/2007

This review is from: HighPoint RocketRAID 2320 PCI-Express x4 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) RAID Controller Card

Pros: Great card for value, works well for RAID 5. No problems with rebuilding during failures.

Cons: terrible software. the review titled "Worked well for a while" is true in that the RAID app eating up massive CPU cycles. I've build more than a dozen rigs with RR2320, RR2310, and RR2300 - only the RR2300 doesn't have this problem (but it's only 4 port, and PCI-E x1)

Other Thoughts: I've already contacted Highpoint about the CPU cycle issue, and no one seems to care. Bad Customer Support, slow/no response to support inquiries. Go for a 3ware if you have the $$.
