Good Laptop -- Want my Win7 Coupon!

MSI Laptop Intel Pentium T4200 3GB Memory 320GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G 16.0" Windows Vista Home Premium CR600-013US
MSI Laptop Intel Pentium T4200 3GB Memory 320GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G 16.0" Windows Vista Home Premium CR600-013US

Pros: Good performance, did not come with too much bloatware installed. WiFi interface works well, Bluetooth works well once you discover you have to press the wireless button twice in quick succession to change bluetooth state. Wife really enjoys watching Netflix on it.

Cons: I want my Win7 upgrade coupon! I followed the specified procedure. Registered the laptop, printed out the upgrade request form and filled it in, included the receipt/invoice from Newegg, and mailed it to MSI well within the allotted time. I have not received my coupon. I have sent several emails to the support address, and no response.

Works, sorta

SIIG PCI to PS/2 Card Model JJ-PA0012-S1
SIIG PCI to PS/2 Card Model JJ-PA0012-S1

Pros: It does indeed make PS/2 ports available to the machine

Cons: It does not work reliably on my Core i3 machine (ASRock Pro3) running Ubuntu 11.10. it is indeed recognized, but if the keyboard or mouse events are coming quickly (like say, under normal use patterns) the symbol sequences will be messed up very frequently. If a mouse is attached, spurious button clicks will be generated while moving the mouse, and if a keyboard is attached, periodically while typing at a normal rate of speed (50-60 wpm), the adapter will loose connection and will have to be re-supervised, causing characters to be lost for a couple of seconds. Note that the motherboard's built-in PS/2 port is rock solid...Wish the mother board had two of them. I also tried one of the PS/2 to USB external adapters, which I use with great success on another machine with a different Linux distribution, and that also did not work well

Overall Review: Perhaps the fundamental problem is Ubuntu itself; I'm still trying to examine that. But I can safely say so far that with the ASRock Pro3 and Ubuntu 11.10, none of the PS/2 adapters I have tried work well.

Great home/work printer

Samsung ML-2251N Workgroup Up to 20 ppm Monochrome Ethernet (RJ-45) / LPT / USB Laser Printer
Samsung ML-2251N Workgroup Up to 20 ppm Monochrome Ethernet (RJ-45) / LPT / USB Laser Printer

Pros: I've had the printer for a year and a half, and it's been a dream. I bought it for general printing for home schooling our 4 children, and it works wonderfully. All 8 computers (4 WinXP, one Win2K, 3 Linux) in the house have it set as their primary printer. The ink cost is so reasonable that I don't monitor the children's laser printer usage, unlike the inkjet printer usage. We are STILL printing on the reduced capacity cartridge that came with the printer, after 5000 sheets. Output, even on the ink saver setting, is clear and dark.

Cons: Not really a con, but with 6 people printing, the 250 sheet tray empties awfully quickly. It's noisier than an inkjet, but so much faster, and it warms up and goes back to sleep quickly.

Overall Review: The built-in web server works quite well for admin operations.
