Linksys E4200V2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs The same as v1 but with only one difference 03/21/2012

This review is from: Linksys E4200V2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Extremely fast router but not much faster than the v1. Built-in basic ftp server and media server.

Cons: The processor of the v1 and v2 are EXACTLY the same. At first in the v1 they used a Broadcomm which was certainly slower then the v2 but Linksys-Cisco decided to use the same processor for the revision of v1 so the v1 and the v2 are essentially the same both using a marvell 1.2Ghz processor inside. The only difference is that the v2 has 3 radio streams for the 2.4Ghz side but in test it only provided a 10-12 percent boost in performance and when most people buy laptops the default wireless card will only handle 1-2 streams as this is the limitation of the card and most paople will not replace the card just to have the 3rd data stream so essentially having 3 streams is a waste for the 2.4Ghz band. The point is save some money and go with the v1 as its the same device as the v2 but without the 3rd 2.4ghz data stream which is only going to be used by a handful of people anyhow. Continued in "Other Thoughts"

Other Thoughts: Having three streams is best suited for the the 5Ghz band user as it is faster and a real noticable difference can be seen. the 5Ghz band has much less interference and is far faster. Generally those enthusiast who want the best connection will spend the money for a better wireless card to use the 5Ghz signal. Which means having three antenna or wireless connections is more useful on the 5Ghz band than on the 2.4Ghz band.

Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5

5 out of 5 eggs Did Newegg just get on inappropriate medication? 10/29/2011

This review is from: Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great drive runs well. I buy nothing but Western digital black.

Cons: If they break they usually break within a few weeks if it doesn't break then they usually don't fail until many years later. This is unlike Seagate Drive if they fail they tend to fail 3-6 months later after all the important data has been put on the drive, not to mention on average Western Digital drives last longer. Speed? Well Western digital drive are slightly slower but not by much at all but I much rather have a reliable drive than a faster drive that crashes and burns.

Other Thoughts: The price of the drive Is truly ridiculous They are wanting one hundred and eighty nine dollars. I bought this drive for eighty dollars on sale with a regular price of one hundred nineteen dollars. Newegg please share the crack. Look elsewhere to buy the drive.

POWEREX MH-8AAI-BH 2400mAh 8-pack AA IMEDION Pre-Charged and Ready-to-use Rechargeable Batteries
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Far better than Energizer, Duracell, and Rayovac rechargeables 10/17/2011

This review is from: POWEREX MH-8AAI-BH 2400mAh 8-pack AA IMEDION Pre-Charged and Ready-to-use Rechargeable Batteries

Pros: Powerex makes some of the very best batteries period. I have tried about every brand out there and while there are a couple brands that come close and only one brand that matches the quality of Powerex is still a top choice for rechargeable battery needs. My list of top brands of rechargeables beside Powerex being the best.

1. Ansman, This is a German brand and these match the quality of Powerex batteries.
2.Sanyo Eneloop, Great Japanese battery should definitely look these up if the price is right.
3. Panasonic rechargeables but these are next to impossible to find but they are very good.

Cons: Really? a con where a con?

Other Thoughts: NEVER use a 15 minute charger as these chargers destroy the capacity and life of rechargeable batteries. Using a pulse charger then 1 hour charge is fine otherwise use a 2 hour charger. Maha Powerex MH-C9000 is a pulse charger which helps to prevent the generation of heat which can damage batteries and also helps to acheive maximum charge without damaging the cells.
