This review is from: Seagate Backup Plus for Mac 4TB USB 3.0 Mac & PC Storage Model STCB4000102
Pros: This drive was easy to setup but needed a firmware update before it ran without issues. Since I've only had this drive a short while, I can't tell you about it's performance over time, but so far it's performing well.
Cons: So far the only disadvantage I can see to owning this drive is the short 4 foot USB cable, but that can be replaced inexpensively.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you update the firmware!! For my Mac, I grabbed the firmware update from the Seagate site, here:
When updating the firmware BE ABSOLUTELY sure that you start the update AND THEN plug in the external drive. When the external drive was already plugged in and I ran the updater, it didn't detect the drive which defaults to everything is okay, which it isn't. Once updated, you'll need to unplug the drive and plug it back in once or twice.
Pros: I've bought two of these drives. The first was perfect, easy install into bank 3 of my Mac Pro2,1.
Cons: The second drive was installed in bank 4 and after 12 hours it was dead.
Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a quick replacement I'd avoid this drive. Seems to have a 50/50 chance of success. That said, when it works it's brilliant. However, if you end up with a dead drive the RMA process takes far too long if you're in a hurry.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Installed in a Mac Pro2,1 as third drive to use as a Time Machine device. Everything is working perfectly. Access to Time Machine seems brilliant which I attribute to the 7200rpm speed and internal nature of the drive.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: This is a really super easy install and definitely worth the time it takes.READ FULL REVIEW
