Firewire Port Failed
Pros: Looks and performs like a champ. Excellent overclocking utilities.
Cons: The built-in 1394a port broke after very little runtime.
Overall Review: I would have rated this board as 5 eggs except for the port failure. I had to use a PCI slot to install another Firewire adaptor card. This is a bummer but I don't want to have to rebuild my computer because software reconfiguration can be extremely tedious and time consumming. Some programs will require reinstallation when they detect a configuration change (new motherboard).
Sent One Back for Replacement
Pros: Fast CPU and Video Card. Stylish. Touchscreen. Lighted Keyboard. Aluminum Case. It can drive a High Resolution Monitor through HDMI, Good speakers, Good Value at this price point (if it works properly!)
Cons: Bloat-ware Galore, Win 10 Home, Pokey 4500 rpm HDD, Dim Screen, Heavy, Limited Sound Card I/O
Overall Review: I am waiting on a replacement from Newegg (great service) since my first unit developed a weird logon problem in UEFI/BIOS. It was unable to find the boot drive. I ran Win 10 disk repair that solved the problem but it repeated this error consistently. Other than these cons listed above I like this notebook and fits my needs well. I'm hoping the replacement unit works well. I plan to get a M.2 SSD and more RAM later.
Das Box ist Goot
Pros: Works perfectly. Good sound quality for this price point.
Cons: None
Overall Review: Don't expect it to sound as good as a $2000 DAC.
Excellent for My Use
Pros: Beautiful picture quality. No dead pixels on my unit. It was touted for low eyestrain in some computer magazines - helpful for my photophobia. The screen fits nicely on my puny desk. Metal stand looks nice (but uses a little too much room). Excellent scaling of fonts and graphics in Win 7. This product is perfect for all day use without significant eyestrain (for most people with healthy eyes). Good brightness, contrast and colors.
Cons: Poor audio: low volume and poor quality. No mount holes. Poor scaling of fonts and graphics in Win XP. Still a bit pricey. Some un-sizeable text is too small for me to see without glasses. Control buttons are a bit flimsy and glitchy. Wobbles a little too much.
Overall Review: I use this mostly for programming and on-line work. I cannot comment on its suitability for gaming or professional graphics. It will probably not please everybody.
Good for Basic Stuff
Pros: 1. You can get these cheap now, new or refurbished 2. Bluetooth and USB 3. Links to cloud server, OneDrive, SkyDrive 4. Excellent value, includes Word, Xcel, Powerpoint, etc. 5. Some good apps, not many
Cons: 1. Can be very slow and painful to upgrade and setup. I used at least 8 hours of precious time - not worth it for some. Very kludgey upgrade that can easily mess up. 2. The touchscreen is not very responsive. 3. Some lag compared to faster processors and video chips.
Overall Review: Meets my needs very well since I wanted a cheap tablet to surf the internet while being a couch potato. My other computer is a workstation and I don't want to waste it on slacking and entertainment. Email works fine. Office apps work fine. Apple Bluetooth keyboard works fine but is tricky to setup. Easy connection to SkyDrive.
Got A Bad One
Pros: How can I say something nice when my HD goes kaput?
Cons: Failed after a couple hundred hours of runtime. What a pain!
Overall Review: You expect Caviar Black to be the "gold standard" but they fail. This is the first WD drive that ever failed me after more than a dozen of this brand so I gave it 3 eggs anyway. Windows 7 detected an error so I had enough time to do a backup. The WD utility program I downloaded confirmed that this drive is dying (slow disk access).
Misrepresented Merchandise
I received an open box item. I doubt that it carries the full Monster warranty. This "small" oversight was clearly omitted from this company's ad in NewEgg.
