TRENDnet TEW-811DRU AC1200 Dual Band Wireless Router- 4 Gigabit port, , DD-WRT Open Source support
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Nice shape to it, easy to do basic configuration (if it worked)

Cons: I bought this to use as a wireless bridge and because it said it was dd-wrt supported. Neither was exactly right. To use as a wireless bridge, it uses WDS, so you can only use it with other similar chipsets and even then, I couldn't get it to actually connect as a client. As far as dd-wrt, I installed the firmware from the manufacturer's page as a last ditch effort. I should not have done this. Doing so voids your warranty.

The plus side of this firmware was that it's dd-wrt and I actually got it to work. Hooray! However, every few minutes of actual use, the router simply reboots for no apparent reason. I'm trying to use it as a bridge to stream media, so I connect the 5GHz network and get decent throughput in my location (well over 60Mbps, which is good enough), but while streaming files, it simply reboots every few minutes (between 5 and 15 minutes almost every time).

I even tried setting up the 2.4GHz network instead, but it also rebooted at about the same frequency.

Other Thoughts: If you want a dd-wrt router, don't get this as it will invalidate your warranty. If you want a bridge, don't get this since it probably won't work. If you want to actually use wireless aspect of this router, don't get this since it'll just reboot regularly.

Since I tried dd-wrt on it, I now have a worthless hunk of plastic that I can't return or get "fixed" if there even is a fix.
