This review is from: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Media Center Kit Dual TV Tuner w/ IR Remote PCI-E x 1
Pros: None at all
Cons: The remote worked after two different programs were run but the remote is beyond slow in WMC. To install the software without a CD/DVD Drive you have to call customer service. They're in New York and are not friendly at all. The card did not work after the computer went to sleep and woke back up.
Other Thoughts: This card is trash. The software is trash. The remote is trash. After putting my computer to sleep and waking it up the next day, the card no longer functioned. Not to mention the amount of setup to try and get this card/remote combo to work together is hideous. They have so many different programs you need on your computer to make it work, you get lost. And most of the programs run and say "Success!" but do nothing. I RMA'd mine and got an AverMedia card. It worked in 20 minutes. I speak a week on this card and ended up with a dead card. I would not recommend this card to anyone.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: AVerMedia AVerTVHD Duet PCTV tuner (A188) A188-AF PCI-Express x1 Interface
Pros: Plug it in, install the software, it works!
Cons: None as of yet
Other Thoughts: I just RMA'd a Hauppauge 2250 that gave me days worth of trouble and research. Upon trying to install the Hauppauge 2250, I had to call customer service because I didn't have a CD/DVD drive. They had to approve my cards MAC address so that I could install the software. FYI, the NA Customer Service is in New York so they are not nice at all. After getting the card in, the remote did not work. I had to get additional software, additional menus, additional settings... it was a pain. None of it worked. And after I did get it all working, I put my computer to sleep and the next day when I turned it on, the card was dead. Trash.
In comparison, this card was perfect. Plug it in, install one CD worth of software (no need for online drivers, etc) and configure WMC to the new tuner card and BAM! TV on my PC. Simple and easy. Had the remote and the card up and running in WMC in 20 minutes. I would recommend this card with a WMC remote as this card is super cheap when it goes on sale. Best buy ever for my HTPC.
Pros: Plug it in, put batteries in, install the software, it works!
Other Thoughts: The remote works with Windows Media Center flawlessly. It is tons faster than the remote that comes with the Hauppauge 2250. The presets on the remote (Videos, Music, Radio, etc) are awesome. My wife was working it in minutes with minimal instruction! I would recommend this to anyone just starting in the HTPC market and needing something that works out of the box and is not too worried about customizing their remote right away.READ FULL REVIEW
