2 out of 5 eggs Not Good, Slower Than Expected 12/22/2013

This review is from: Shuttle KD20 Network Storage

Pros: Great price, transfer speed is somewhat slow at an average of 40MBps,

Cons: slow for booting, for drive recognition, slow for transfer, have to wait about 90 seconds to be able to open a folder while unit is in sleep mode.

GUI is somewhat antiquate,

Other Thoughts: Great Design

4 out of 5 eggs Awesome Wireless Range 12/06/2013

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: Very fast and very easy to setup, i have 14 devices connected and it manages all of them very well, a recent firmware update resolved video streaming issue in QOS. let me talk clear, im CCNA certified and this thing rocks for a connected home/soho like mine, wireless range is espectacular in both radio frequencies 2.4 and 5 GHZ respectively, has a very nice design but somewhat out of size. a shared USB is in the back of the unit and a 2.o in the front, it is opaque black for those who hate glossy piano black like me. I have 3 gigabit switches connected to this baby and though i don't use much wireless devices, streaming TV and DLNA streaming works like a charm in wired connections, my wireless devices also works like a charm but i have not been able to see a whole movie in a wireless device to see if it re-buffers. Simultaneous 2.4 and 5 GHZ wireless its an added bonus.

Cons: Price is kind of high for this router, USB ports are very inconvenient for those who hangs this router to a wall. 4 gigabit wired ports is simply not acceptable for the price, should have been at least 8, antennas look very bulky and ugly, on off switch is also misplaced in the back of the unit and too close to antennas and ports, a power switch should have been in the front. USB media sharing is a nightmare to configure, takes some trial and error to make it work

Other Thoughts: Knocked off an egg for a flimsy GUI, USB ports and power switch location,

4 out of 5 eggs Handles a lot of Data 11/01/2013

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: This BIG kid can handle all data you can throw at it, i currently have about 8 wired devices and 5 wireless devices connected, no issues or hassles so far in 3 weeks.

Wireless range its a dream come true, where i live in Puerto Rico, houses all all concrete, solid concrete, this BIG kid, has an incredible wireless range, besides having dual 2.4 and 5.0 wireless simultaneously. fast, really fast, you will be better of ir you go without the Genie App, maybe for newbies. This is a WIn-Win router if you have some knowledge in IT.

Cons: Here we go, first of all the QOS settings its not to use, streaming TV services will keep un buferring when this setting its turned on, anyway if you use this BIG kid im sure you have over 20 Mbps connection so you will have no problem keeping QOS off.

This BIG kid is really up sized if you compare it to the usual routers, a big downside its that you only get 4 ports, so be ready to buy some gigabit speed switches, i have 3 of them for my multiple devices.

Construction of this device is kind of CHEAP, very flimsy, antennas are quite large for a home device but in my case that is not a problem.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this BIG kid the same week it went on the market, i purchased it at Newegg for $199 and i think that is a quite large price, seems to me the price is way too expensive, even though this router has a lot of features, and a lot of features to be corrected in future firmwares updates.
