This review is from: Rosewill RC-505 - 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Card
Pros: Cheap. Well known chip maker (despite what others seem to believe), works fine as yet another pair of USB2 ports, which I need like I need a couple more holes in my head.
Cons: Comes up as USB3 capable in both Win7x64 and several Linux environments, but always falls back to USB2 speeds when I actually plug a USB3 device in. Tried several external drives, including a brand new 4TB MyBook. Tried every driver I could find, as well as more than one firmware. Nothing mattered, it always did exactly the same thing. It's in a parts bag for now. Hopefully someday a new firmware will fix it. Could be mine is just defective, but I rather doubt it.
Other Thoughts: Renesas *IS* NEC Semiconductor for all intents and purposes. Just because YOU haven't heard of them doesn't mean they are a no-name, fly-by-night, garage operation. NEC had the first decent USB3 chip on the market and was the de facto standard for quite some time.
