Superb buy

37" State-of-the-Art LCD HDTV W/ ATSC Tuner Inside
37" State-of-the-Art LCD HDTV W/ ATSC Tuner Inside

Pros: Excellent TV, especially for the price. Built-in HDTV tuner works great, even with an old UHF antenna. Plenty of inputs on the back. Remote is actually decent on this model - it lights up too. Speakers are decent for built-in and will hold you over until you get the surround connected.

Cons: On-screen menu (design) is a joke for such a nice TV (but has lots of options). Long power on time is annoying. Instruction manual CD did not work at all - acted like a blank CD and would not read. Round-robin input selection is a PITA (isn't this the 21st century?).

Overall Review: Take it out of demo mode when you first get it, otherwise things like auto-channel scan won't work! Radio Shack DA-5200 HD antenna works great, even indoors. See antennaweb.org for HDTV channel list, and directions from your house's POV.

Absolute Garbage!

ASUS M2A-VM HDMI AM2 AMD 690G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M2A-VM HDMI AM2 AMD 690G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Sounds good on paper, but it's a real tuurd.

Cons: Pass on this! I've spent countless hours trying to get the onboard audio and video working at the same time. You get one or the other. Sound works fine until you install ATI drivers, then nothing. Only once did I get it to work and the audio was choppy. I even tried a PCI audio card & no HDMI. Audio worked fine, until ATI drivers installed. NO AUDIO.

Overall Review: I didn't have room to mention that the video turns purple or green after driver install & reboot. I tried 3 different versions - all had the same result. Asus support is worthless and their forums are littered with complaints about this board. Do yourself a favor and stick with GeForce! NewEgg - please remove this worthless, buggy MB from your inventory!

Excellent case

Antec Sonata III 500 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply
Antec Sonata III 500 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

Pros: Classy looking, functional, and QUIET!

Cons: LED's on the front are a bit hard to see from certain angles. Because of that, combined with the its super quietness, I've mistakenly pressed the power button when the computer appeared to be off, but was actually on.

Overall Review: This is a gorgeous case for those that don't need or want the flashy "look at me and how much I spent on my computer" type of glowing nightlight. If your signature on a forum anywhere includes the specs for your computer, this case is not for you.

Great motherbord

ABIT AN-M2HD (LE) AM2+/AM2 GeForce7050PV/ nForce630a HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ABIT AN-M2HD (LE) AM2+/AM2 GeForce7050PV/ nForce630a HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Packed with features right on the board, including the coveted HDMI and optical sound! Lots of BIOS options. Onboard video is surprisingly fast - rated a 3.1 in Windows Vista. Has no problem with x264 encoded (avi & mkv) 720p or 1080i videos.

Cons: Drivers that came with it didn't work in Vista - video and sound in particular. Both easily remedied by downloading new drivers from nVidia.

Overall Review: Add one of the lower wattage dual-core AMD chips for under $50, and you have a superb setup for a Windows Vista HTPC. Note that this MB has only HDMI & analog VGA video, there is no digital DVI output. If you don't have HDMI monitor, use an HDMI to DVI cable ($5 on NewEgg) instead of the inferior analog VGA. Not really a con, just something to be aware of.

Fast, quiet, and cheap

Western Digital Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Very fast drives, and super quiet. If you're looking for HTPC drives, this guys is a great addition.

Cons: They are made by Western Digital. OK, I suppose WD is getting their reputation back after all those problems with the 1.6 GB drives back in the day. They are small by today's standards, but I use a gigabit NAS for all my big storage anyway. Having more than 160 gigabyte drives local are a waste of space and power.

Overall Review: Seriously, this is the first WD drives I have purchased since being burned many years ago by faulty, unreliable 1.2 and 1.6 GB drives by WD. They lied about the severity of the problem until thousands and thousands of people complaining forced them to recall hundreds of thousands of drives. I have not trusted WD since, until now. That being said, I bought two of these after doing intense research on WD's SATA drives. I still keep my important data on the mirrored NAS, however. I won't be burned by WD ever again.

Fantastic motherboard

GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H AM2 AMD 690G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H AM2 AMD 690G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: I had to write an additional review to cover the on-board audio. I had planned on using separate PCI SB Audigy, but the 8800GTS is so massive that it completely covers one PCI slot and makes it a very tight fit in the other. Too close for my comfort. I was worried about improper cooling frying the video card, so I decided to try out the on-board audio. I was pleasantly surprised. I have a few year old Boston Acoustics 4 speaker system with separate bass. It still looks at sounds great, so there was no need to replace it. While playing with the audio software settings, I found that the integrated audio on this motherboard will simulate 7.1 beautifully using my 5 speaker system. The center channel is emulated by sending the audio to both front speakers in phase. The two side channels are emulated in much the same way using the front and rear speakers. The end result is extremely impressive for integrated audio. Did I mention the gigabit driver was buggy?

Cons: Only 2 PCI slots.

Overall Review: This would make a great HTPC system. The gigabit connection and integrated 7.1 audio make it ideal. Throw in a clean looking and amazingly quiet case like the Antec Sonta III, and you have one hell of a Home Theater system.
