Upgrading from a 754 AMD Clawhammer

AMD FX-8150 - FX-Series Zambezi 8-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor - FD8150FRGUBOX
AMD FX-8150 - FX-Series Zambezi 8-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor - FD8150FRGUBOX

Pros: Comes with a good low profile heatsink. Installed in seconds. Handles everything I can throw at it and stays cool.

Cons: The thermal tape on the heat sink was not very reliable.

Overall Review: Coupled this with a Gigabyte GA-990FxA-UD3 MoBo, 8g of GSkill RipJaw mem, and a 1G Gigabyte Graphics card. I have been having some OS issues, I think because of not running a sata drive off the MoBo. Trying to work it out with the MoBo mfg'er

GIGABYTE GeForce GT 630 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card GV-N630-1GI

Pros: Was up and running as soon as I turned my computer on. The new drivers were easy to load and the resolution is beyond my expectations. The fan is quite and effective; remaining below 30°C most of the time (ambient is 27°C) in my house. Multiple outputs offer multi-monitor support.

Cons: The heatsink and fan extend a way off of the board so that one of my two PCIe slots is covered and unusable. Luckily, I only have one PCIe card to put in my machine.

Overall Review: Installed on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 MoBo. Compatibility seens as if they were made to work together.

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Everything came on time. Was easy to install and the drivers loaded without complication. The two instruction booklets were easy to understand and everything was well marked. Gigabyte Tech service was fast friendly and very helpful. Backup BIOS is great and the BIOS flash software that comes with the drivers is fast and easy to use.

Cons: No Floppy or IDE controler on board made me go to StarTech for a PCIe IDE controler card. Some compatability issues with old OS possible that caused an issue with Adobe Flash Player updater.

Overall Review: Dual Channel memory seems to work fine, have not tried to over-clock; everything is currently set to Auto in the BIOS. BIG problems occured when I tried alternate settings Glad there is a CMOS reset jumper and a backup BIOS Running an AMD FX-8150, 8G of G-Skill (1600), and a Gigabyte Graphics card. The G-Skill ram did not like to be OC to 1866.
