Excellent System
Pros: Simple, efficient, easy to work with. As another reviewer mentioned this particular 1U comes WITH a riser card for PCI-E. That was a huge plus over their other atom 1U systems. Works with VMWare ESXi 4.1 perfectly other than a warning about a case fan... which it lacks.
Cons: None for me other than all the screws to open it. Some people complain they are a little loud due to the power supply fan, but they are being picky.
Overall Review: Simple, worked right out of the box. Bought as a package with a 2GB stick of RAM, and 1TB HDD. I already have a couple atom 1U systems running as Untangle firewalls and had purchased this to be yet another. Now I am going to try it out as a light weight VMWare ESXi host and see if I can run both a firewall and a light web or file server.
Unreliable
Pros: Lower cost, small SSD to use in place of CF.
Cons: As several other reviews have mentioned, these drives are not OS stable in all cases. In testing as a boot device for some small 1U ATOM servers being used as opensource firewalls, I have encountered unusual problems ranging from timeouts on boot, system hangs during updates, to complete corruptions.
Overall Review: If you have a very simple system that does not write/read from the SSD frequently or does so on a single thread in a serial manner, you might be able to justify this device. Personally I wish I would have just bought standard low power laptop spinning drives for this batch of servers.
Works well
Pros: Works very well on my FX-8120 overclocked to 4.2ghz (originally 3.1ghz). I replaced my ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED that just couldn't keep up. As soon as I installed it, I turned around and burned it in for 30 minutes with Prime95, then tested it with a few games. The temp just barely broke 37C in a really warm room. To ensure stability, I then ran it at 100% on Prime95 for 5 hours. After 5 hours, still sitting right at 100F in a 75 degree room. This is even more impressive because this time, rather than using an expensive tube of thermal paste like I usually do, I just used the included thermal compound. I can probably drop the temp further changing it out, but I'll let it run for another 6 months of testing before I look to try to optimize further.
Cons: It's a little complex to install because of all the different configuration options (just need to throw away all the unused brackets up front). The screws to hold the fan to the case and radiator are JUST long enough. If you are going through busing or fan grill, they will be short. If they had another a threads worth of length I could have reused my grills.
Overall Review: This is a really good setup for the price. This system uses softer tubes than some of the other systems, but this can be a good thing as they don't get permanently kinked easily.
Great Helmet Cam
Pros: Very light, accepts an external mic, has a psudo-viewfinder, etc. I have a GoPro Hero HD as well and tested it side by side. The GoPro generally has a better picture, but the Drift is very good for the price (at around $179.99). I have found that I prefer this as a helmet cam for 2 reasons. First, it's much more aerodynamic than a GoPro. Second, it's light and looks far less weird than a GoPro on my helmet.
Cons: Bigger than it needs to be. I took it a part when I got it, checked out the guts, and traced some circuits (looking to add my own normal 3.5m jack to the case). It looks like they could make the body of the camera much smaller by just repackaging and reorienting components. Smaller is always better in the world of helmet cams.
Overall Review: GoPro: Wins in any hostile conditions or vehicle mounted uses. Better low light without changing modes. Drift: Wins as my day to day helmet cam riding into work.
Excellent Case
Pros: Very easy installations, good amount of room, very well constructed. Almost everything about the case is very high quality. Can fit very tall heatsinks, specifically used COOLER MASTER Hyper 212.
Cons: No major cons.
Overall Review: Used then when building my newest office machine: AMD 1090T x6 ([email protected]) COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 16GB GSKILL DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 SAPPHIRE 100312SR Radeon HD 6950 (Flashed to 6970) Crucial RealSSD C300 (boot drive) LIAN LI PC-9F
Good little card
Pros: Worked great right out of the box. The card was picked up by ESXi 4 no problem and hasn't had an issue in the several months it's been in my test box.
Cons: None
Overall Review: For the price and how well it works, it's hard to beat. My ESXi test box is built in an extra Lian Li PC-C36B case I had from an HTPC project, was very happy to find a cheap low profile card.
