TP-LINK HS100 Smart Plug, Wi-Fi Enabled, Control Your Electronics from Anywhere, Energy Saving

4 out of 5 eggs Great little smart plugs, easy to setup & control 08/01/2016

This review is from: TP-LINK HS100 Smart Plug, Wi-Fi Enabled, Control Your Electronics from Anywhere, Energy Saving

Pros: - Easy setup & control via smartphone app (I'm on Android)
- Maintain their state after a power loss
- Pretty good configuration for day/time settings
- Can manually turn on / off via button on top of plug

Cons: - Vacation mode isn't what I was expecting. I thought it would randomize the On/Off time by a few minutes. Instead it will turn the device (in my case a lamp) on & off several times during the specified time period. Not exactly what I wanted but it serves it's purpose.

Other Thoughts: I bought a couple of these to turn on some lamps in the evening. Mostly for convenience, but also if I'm ever gone it still looks like someone is home. They were super simple to setup via the kasa app and are quite configurable. Newegg had them on sale so it was just too good of a deal to pass up, beats the heck of out manual timers.

One nice thing is if they are turned on and the power goes out, once power is restored and they boot up they will turn back on (assuming it's still within the time-frame the device should be powered).

One odd thing I have noticed is that these are constantly generating wifi traffic... like a lot of traffic. I have no idea why and it doesn't seem to be much data. However, I notice the wifi light on my router is constantly flickering like crazy and in the diag page there are a high number of packets sent/received via wifi. If I unplug my smart plugs then the traffic stops, so I know it is them.

NETGEAR ProSAFE 8-Port Fast Ethernet Switch (FS108) - Lifetime Warranty

5 out of 5 eggs Great for a cheap 10/100 Mb switch... 05/30/2016

This review is from: NETGEAR ProSAFE 8-Port Fast Ethernet Switch (FS108) - Lifetime Warranty

Pros: Metal chassis, fanless, netgear switchs have always been very reliable for me. Auto crossover detection.

Cons: Depending on your wiring, the power connector might be on the wrong side.
Only 10/100 Mb, not Gigabit.

Other Thoughts: Lost my old 8 port fast ethernet switch in a recent move... Was needing an 8 port switch for some embedded devices & printers that only had 100Mb ports (and actually use minimal bandwidth), so purchasing a gigabit switch would have been a waste. Waited a while and Newegg had a promo code + MIR to bring this switch down to a price that was just too good to pass up, practically giving it away.

ADATA 16GB UV128 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (AUV128-16G-RBY)

1 out of 5 eggs First flash drive to fail on me... 09/06/2015

This review is from: ADATA 16GB UV128 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: - Cheap
- Not too bulky
- USB port retracts to prevent damage and make slightly smaller.

Cons: - 1 out of 3 that I bought have failed within 8 months. Now I'm starting to wonder about the other two's reliability after reading all these other reviews.

Other Thoughts: I'm not really concerned with a flash drive's speed. What I AM concerned with is their reliability. This drive just decided to up and die on me, I just transferred a bunch of files. I ALWAYS use the Windows eject removable device. I forgot a couple more files so I plugged it back in and NOTHING... Poof.. Dead... :(
