Pros: Good performing drives! Am using 6 on an HP P410 in raid 5 and get very good performance. So far no failures and none were DOA.
SAS is worth the few extra $$ since the error rate is 10^15 instead of 10^14 with SATA so it is a little less likely to encounter an uncorrectable error during a rebuild. (All drives do fail eventually...)
Cons: cost??READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: For price of RAID quality storage, these are bargain compared to the cost for Dell, HP or IBM server drives.
Using 4 in a RAID 10 array with a 3ware 9500S. Has been storage\archive location for about 3TB of video surveillance footage for over a year now. Performance is stellar, drives have been reliable. Works with a very old 3ware card without any issues.
Just ordered two more- Am going to try to connect to an entry level HP server with a SA200 controller to create a low cost software distribution point server.
Also- these are running on a DR server with a highpoint (avoid these like the plague) rocket raid 2320 controller without issue.
Cons: My suspicion is that these are simply WD Black Edition desktop drives with a modified firmware (research TLER for more information)
Pros: Works very well in hp DL380G5 servers. This is a fraction of the cost of HP memory, and has a lifetime warranty!
Other Thoughts: Went from 4GB to 26GB using this kit in a VMware host.READ FULL REVIEW
