Razer Naga Epic Rechargable Wireless MMO PC Gaming Mouse

2 out of 5 eggs How the mighty have fallen 03/13/2014

This review is from: Razer Naga Epic Rechargable Wireless MMO PC Gaming Mouse

Pros: Good weight, feels solid, programmable lighting, programmable buttons.

Cons: Wireless problems.

I have gone through 4 of these mice and had the EXACT same problem on multiple machines.

The mouse works great in wireless mode at first, then about 30 minutes to 1 hour of use (sometimes sooner), the wireless will start to misbehave.

It will essentially hang up or pause on you, with cursor being frozen in place. When it unfreezes, the cursor is roughly where it should be had the mouse not paused on you.

This does not start occurring until AFTER you install Synapse 2.0, and I have confirmed this on 2 computers with separate mice.

I first had my original RMA'd through Newegg, but the second had the same problem. I then got one from a local retailer, same problem.

Each time I conversed extensively with Razer support, and each time they determined the mouse was defective.

The last one I went through Razer to do my RMA, hoping they had a more recent batch that wasn't plagued with this issue. I was wrong.

The problem does NOT occur in wired mode. In fact, the mouse is great in wired mode, just not enough to justify the cost of the mouse.

Other Thoughts: I first had my original RMA'd through Newegg, but the second had the same problem. I then got one from a local retailer, same problem.

Final though: I used to be an avid Razer fan because their stuff lasted. I in fact still have a Lycosa, replaced my still working Mamba with this defective Naga Epic, I still have a Nostromo, and I have a Sabertooth. All with some age on them, and all with no problems.

If this is the quality that Razer is producing now, I may have to find other sources for my hardware.

Pros: Looks really unique, good cable management, plenty of space, very quiet, not as heavy as I expected and the hot-swap bays are very convenient.

Cons: Hot-swap bays are not what I would consider secure, but that's not really a concern for me. Not a fan of the clear-red plastic strip on the top and front of the machine. I would prefer the blue that is on the snow edition.

Other Thoughts: I watched the demo video before I bought the case so I was aware of the operation of the hot-swap bays, but there isn't much instruction in the manual about how to set them up.

If you have a Corsair H80i (or equivalent) all-in-one CPU cooler, you will have to remove the back 140mm fan to mount your radiator.

There's a spot on the bottom for a 120mm fan, but the 140mm from the back won't fit there. I happened to have a good 120mm from my old case, so now I have an extra 140mm fan.

MSI Gaming N760 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 760 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Good, open cooling solution. Very powerful card that even has software that you can run to throttle it up (Gaming Mode) if you need a little extra boost.

Cons: The card seems extra heavy on side and so it droops a little toward the back. I'm concerned that solder joints will crack over time due to the stress. You may want to ensure you have some sort of support option available (case rails, etc) to keep this card straight.
