Pros: I wanted a very light laptop to run Ubuntu. It also needed to be cheap in case the TSA steals it when I travel. I set it up with Ubuntu 12.04 and everything works very nicely. As a bonus, for those occasional times when you have to check something with Internet Exploder, it has Win7 instead of the dreadful Win8 (BTW, Win8 is much worse than just missing start menu- UAC problems, auto logs into last user by default, intentionally delays items in startup folder for tablet compatibility, etc.) It's a pretty functional laptop, and my briefcase almost feels empty, even when I throw in the power brick
Cons: The trackpad is a bit funky and I hope it doesn't break. It doesn't feel strongly engineered. Some of the keys are too cramped. It's not a speed demon, but fast enough for most work.
Other Thoughts: If you install Ubuntu, you will need to:
-Defrag the win7 partition and then have Win7 shrink it (in disk mgr)
-Boot a distro with GParted to shrink the Win7 partition further if desired
-Fix problems with the Atheros WiFi and some WAPs by Creating
/etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf with the line
options ath9k nohwcrypt=1 blink=1 btcoex_enable=1
Otherwise, a very easy install
This review is from: Panasonic BL-VT164 1280 x 720 MAX Resolution RJ45 Pan-tilt Network Camera
Pros: Low price, good manufacturing quality
Does Panasonic have its head in the sand? Apple devices (combined IOS and MacOS) have outsold Windows devices in recent quarters, and the trend is holding. You can't configure this camera if you use a Mac! Worse, they have tried their hardest to obscure the actual URLs for certain operations!
I hope I can return this. I'm furious with Panasonic for ruining a product I have been very pleased with.
Other Thoughts: Over the past few years, I've purchased and installed about 40 Panasonic network cameras, and I have been very happy with them until now. I will have to consider evaluating cameras from Axis, Grandstream and even TrendNet.
They tried to hide the following, but you will need to know it if you want to try to make this failure work:
Default IP address: 192.168.0.10
URL for viewing with a tablet (no setup at all): 192.168.0.10/cam
subURL for administration: /admin/index.html
Pros: After quite a bit of searching, I found that adding the kernel boot option i915.modeset=0 or nomodeset will prevent the bizarre psychedelic flashing that often plagues installations of linux on this pc. This worked on the 4 or 5 distros I tried. This significantly improves the appeal of this little pc. I'll probably be buying several more of these now that I know I can install centos or ubuntu-based distros without the flashing graphics issue
Cons: None right now.
Other Thoughts: Currently testing one as an icecast streaming server - working very nicely so far.READ FULL REVIEW
