5 out of 5 eggs Great board for FreeNAS 9.2 02/10/2014

This review is from: ASRock C2550D4I Mini ITX Server Motherboard DDR3 1600 / 1333

Pros: Four core processor, 12 SATA ports, two Intel NICs, IPMI, four 240 pin DIMM slots. It's really a great combination for something like FreeNAS. The performance has been excellent.

Cons: First board was DOA, second board needed BIOS update and IPMI didn't have MAC addresses burned in (all zeroes) and needed updated as well.

Other Thoughts: ASRock support was actually quite good through e-mail on this and were very helpful. They set me up with the utility to fix the MAC address issue and the rest was simple. Definitely recommend this board for this kind of use case. I would imagine that this would be good for something like PFSense as well.

Pros: Very nice construction. Very easy to assemble and very quite fan. Overall the layout is very well thought out.

Cons: It would be very cool if they had figured out a way to integrate a slim optical drive but I knew that going in.

Other Thoughts: Again, very nice case. Recommended.

ASUS P8H61-I (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard

  • Owned For: less than 1 day

Pros: Seems like it would be a great board because of Asus' reputation.

Cons: DOA. What else is there to say?

Other Thoughts: I see that it's showing out of stock. The pins on the socket looked weird before I put the CPU in but I didn't give it any thought. The board would power on but wouldn't POST. I'm sure a way will be found to put the screws to me on this. At least I paid $14 to ship it back. I remember when Newegg was the best on the internet.
