This review is from: ARRIS SurfBoard SB6183 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem – 600 MHz Dual-Thread Processor
Pros: Fast and no more renting! Got this as an upgrade tot he SB 6141. There was a delay on these since I guess after Arris acquired Motorola they were doing rebranding or something as my modem came as Arris and nothing on there said motorola. Got this for my TWC 100mb after I was told by someone that it would automatically boost my speeds. Well after registering with a Time Warner tech rep I did a speed test and I was getting over 300mb even though I'm paying for the 100mb. Great great speed and nothing bad about it.
Cons: For the person complaining about not having builtin wifi or routing... This is a cable modem. It's not supposed to have that. People buying this should know that it is just a modem and if you want routing and wireless then get a wireless router. It is always better to have those two separate anyways.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Less than an inch thick gaming machine that's actually portable.
-dual mSata and dual SATA
-Fairly loud speakers
-Great Battery LIFE! (around 5 hours unplugged surfing the web and some light music)
Cons: -Audio issue with Win 7 (fixed though, see other thoughts)
-Loud fan noise
-Too much border around the display
Other Thoughts: This laptop was replacing a thick and heavy Asus ROG G75V. I dind't need one so big but I wanted one that was powerful enough for my daily work and also one that I could use for gaming. I was originally looking at the MSI Ghost series because it looked great. Then I saw this Gigabyte and that got me really hooked. First off it has a great video card and I'm able to play BF4 easily on Ultra setting ranging from 80-98 FPS in metro. SC2 is fine and smooth so no complaints here. Able to downgrade to Windows 7 and all drivers work!
The thing that bothered me was an issue with the sound. Everytime the computer screen would wake up again, just monitor power saving not computer resume, the audio would not turn on. Had to restart comp in order for it to work but sometimes it wouldn't. A quick email to gigabyte support and they told me to download the windows 8.1 64bit version of smart manager and that apparently fixed the issue. Weird that I had to download the 8.1 version and not the windows 7 version. Anyhow the other thing is the pitch of the keyboard. It's a little less pitch than I wanted but what can I say, they are cramming a lot of stuff in this less than 1 inch system.
The videocard fans can get loud when playing graphic intensive games but that's expected. If it was the 970m in here I'm sure it wouldn't be as loud but we have a 980m of a beast in here. The cooling is great as it doesn't get warm on the palm rest but the bottom center of the laptop does get warm from the videocard being used at full throttle.
The trackpad is mediocre but when gaming you would get a gaming mouse anyhow so not that big of an issue.
The plastic around the monitor is thicker than I liked but I've gotten used to it.
The sound is actually pretty good especially with the dolby settings turned on. Pretty loud for something this small.
The battery life is another thing that surprised me. Most gaming laptops barely last 3 hours when unplugged but this sucker went on for more than 5 hours on a recent plane ride while I was surfing the web and listening to music and some videos.
The keyboard is a little crammed since they added the number pad on a 15.6 but I guess that’s why there is the extra border around the monitor in order to accommodate the space. Size wise it is 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller than a macbook pro 15inch if you want to get an idea of the size of this thing.
If you wanted to upgrade it is quite simple. Just remove all the screws on the bottom and voila you got access to the whole thing. 2 mSata and 2 SATA so you could put 4 hard disks if you remove the DVD drive. Also there is a caddy for you convert an ssd to fit in the dvd drive slot that comes with the laptop.
All in all I’m very pleased with this laptop and I’m sure it will be used much more than my previous gaming laptop as it serves my work and gaming purposes. Did I mention it looks really sleek? It’s like a black macbook pro but for the windows user.
Pros: Not one coaster and writes faster than stated! Got it cheap when they were on sale!
Other Thoughts: It writes at 8x on my pioneer burner and my LG 16x burner. You can burn it at 8x but I've seen so me issues with it where data is not written properly or leads to coasters. Choose 6x and it works like a charm. The print surface seems really good. Images printed on using my canon MG6220 looks wonderful.READ FULL REVIEW
