This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pros: Nice size, decent Price
But Samsung 840 EVO Restoration Firmware needs to be done, Google it, or youtube it before buying.
At least they admitted the problem and are trying to address it. But they need to do more to Help AMD owners !
Cons: Over time speed decreases with read on things that are not often used.
Samsung 840 EVO Restoration firmware update (fix) needs to be done. Easy on Intel with only one partition, but won't work on anything with more than one partition, or anything in RAID. AMD fix can easily become a nightmare even with there poor instructions.
SAMSUNG: Put out a decent repair for AMD and people with more than one partition !
Other Thoughts: This is Samsungs problem, not NewEggs.
I have nothing but respect for Newegg and their Customer realtions people. I am sure they want you to know about this fix for this fine product.
Samsung ...Keep working on a better fix for the AMD owners with this unit.
This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pros: Still a decent price for the size, but be aware that all the 840 Evo from Samsung have a problem that requires a firmware update to restore how quickly it works (See Samsung Performance Restoration Firmware Update)
See more in Cons !
Cons: Firmware fix from Samsung is now available from Samsung
Google "Samdung 840 Evo Performance Restoration Firmware Update"
Pretty easy if you have Intel and only 1 partition, but can be a big problem if you have AMD, or Amd with more than one partition, or are using RAID. More than 1 partition and Raid can be a problem for Intel and Amd (Fix won't work).
SAMSUNG you need to get a decent fix for people with AMD and People with RAID or more than 1 partition.
This is not acceptable to give these people a fix mainly designed for intel, and with poor instructions, or no decent fix for long term "read slow performance". Get the AMD people something that works better ! Not New Eggs Fault.
If they don't get on it soon, get something else until they do !
Other Thoughts: Back up things before you do firmware fix.
We should not have to fix these new products in this manner.
They did respond to the problem, but poorly for AMD users.
Some manufacturers place restrictions on how details of their products may be communicated.
