This review is from: SIIG SC-SAE012-S2 PCI-Express x1 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
Pros: A way to add more SATA II ports to a computer that lacks them-
non-RAID is actually a positive since it omits some of the complications associated with a RAID setup (you wouldn't want a RAID on PCIe x1 slot anyway)
Cons: Doesn't work in all PC's --- would not appear in BIOS nor device manager in one of the PC's tested. So there is a chance it might not work in your PC (especially newer UEFI BIOS - specifically American Megatrends aptio BIOS-
It is slow - but that can be expected in a PCIe x1 slot. It doesn't do SATA II speed from the tests I conducted - more like SATA I. --- This means that I would not advise someone to connect an SSD to this card -- the speed of the SSD would not be realized -- It would be perfect for DVD and Blu-Ray drives which in general cannot saturate a SATA II bus anyway
Other Thoughts: If you need to add more SATA ports, don't care about earth shattering speed and believe this card will be compatible with your system -- then you should get it --- if you are trying to add 'fast' SATA ports to add SSD's to a system you might be disappointedREAD FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Rosewill PCIe Parallel Card 1 Port Model RC-302E
Pros: Despite them not being a standard on many motherboards anymore there are still a lot of devices that require a parallel port - We still use an old Zebra thermal printer at work -- when upgrading the shipping computer we needed parallel port to communicate with the printer --- Install was painless -- in machine running 24/7 since last year so --- yeah -- the pros are that it worked
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: they should not list Win 8 as a supported OS - though that might be Newegg not Rosewill's fault ---READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: SYBA SD-EXP15005 1x Serial Port ExpressCard - Retail
Pros: Despite the fact that serial Rs232 communication is an ancient protocol there are many of us who still need to interface with equipment via RS232. This RS232 card allows a laptop to interface with RS232 equipment. Windows (Windows 7 32-Bit) installed the drivers automatically and I was using the card to communicate with a an 'online UPS' in minutes. For $25.00, this capability is well worth the price tag.
Cons: As noted by some other users; the card feels somewhat flimsy and lightweight. Perhaps that is just the nature of a device that doesn't require many 'heavy components'- In general express cards are often fragile and the way they interface to a laptop is not the most robust of connections -
Other Thoughts: I have been able to communicate to several devices via this card --- I am very satisfied with this purchase. I didn't give the device 5 stars as that is generally my policy not to adorn anything with a label of 'perfect'READ FULL REVIEW
