One AMD Place

AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.5 GHz Socket AM3 125W Desktop Processor - HDZ970FBGMBOX
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.5 GHz Socket AM3 125W Desktop Processor - HDZ970FBGMBOX

Pros: Well, this CPU is much better than the AMD 5600+ that it replaced while retaining and utilizing the same mother board (Gigabyte rocks). Much of the computer work that I enjoy is 3D photo realistic animation, and yes, I did rendering tests prior and after mounting the Quad-core CPU. The results? The results were good, and the numbers are as follows . . . the older CPU rendered a very light intense scene in 17seconds, while the new Quad-Core did so in only 9 seconds. That is a pretty good time saver. While trying to be creative, the creative one wants not to wait around. Perhaps someday I will have the option to build a system that will operate in real-time, but that also depends on the software rendering engine- so, select wisely.

Cons: Power-supplies have greatly altered in the world of computing since the older 8080/286/386/486 and the pentiums; so, this CPU requires a power-supply of a greater nature. Visit AMD's web site for a AMD's verified power-supply, as all power-supplies are not created equal!

Overall Review: Yes, I got a whole bunch, but I am not going to bore you at this moment.

Most Critical Review

Good Price

Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model KVR13N9S8HK2/8
Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model KVR13N9S8HK2/8

Pros: Good price

Cons: I followed HP requirements for installing new ram, and as per their requirements these sticks were to be okay, but system would not post/boot with these installed.

Overall Review: The only sure way to assure sticks of ram will work in your computer, even if the manufacture states they will, is to install them and see if they post!!! I know, it is a sad ordeal, but true. Welcome to the world of the mysterious computer world. A+ certified and still going strong.

HP DC7900

HP Desktop PC DC7900 Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz 4 GB 1 TB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit (Microsoft Authorized Recertified)
HP Desktop PC DC7900 Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz 4 GB 1 TB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit (Microsoft Authorized Recertified)

Pros: I wanted a system that would be well supported in the years to come, and HP does very well in that regards; such as, bios, drivers, and documentation downloads all from one website. The use of this machine was for general office work, and web surfing, as well as wanting a machine that came with Windows 7 Pro. I have not used, nor will it be used as a gamming station. With all said, the computer has speeded-up both my web surfing and business applications from an AMD dual core XP box. It is well designed both internally and externally, but the screw-less case requires special little mounting washers to install additional Hard Drive/DVD drives, but if you are thinker, you can just use some rubber O-rings under the HD mounting screws. It comes with Win7 pre installed, but no Win7 disk, so back-up the OS ASAP.

Cons: Now, the power supply is not a standard unit, and if it stops working, then an HP replacement will be required, but the good news is that the HP power supply can be had for about $29.00 USD! Sure, you could modify a different power supply, but you better know what you are doing. Also, securing Win7 is a chore and a half.

Overall Review: I ordered the HP DC7900, but an Elite8000 was shipped to me; or I should say a Hybrid Elite8000 was shipped, as it appears the case looks like a DC7900, but internals are that of a HP Elite8000. Also, it appears that this computer might of been a bench testing unit for external USB devices. Why? because a couple of the USB ports are a bit sloppy, and that takes a lot of plugging/un-plugging for that to happen.

Samsung SSD Thing

SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PD128BW

Pros: Shipping was way fast, and everybody loves that! Does what it is to do, and ups the Win7 speed rating. Installing was way easy, and no more worries about bumping your computer when it is on.

Cons: No Cons.

Overall Review: Samsung has a five year warranty on these, and that is a good thing to look for when buying these things.

Sapphire Card

SAPPHIRE 11180-00-CPO Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card Factory Refurbished
SAPPHIRE 11180-00-CPO Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card Factory Refurbished

Pros: Nice cooling management for card at this price. Still messing around with all the features and adjustments, but the card so far has upped the Win7 performance rating, which is a good thing. 256 bit memory on a video card is a nice thing to aim for rather than 128, or a 64 bit, and this card has the greater of the three (256).

Cons: You have to open the case to install it! Just kidding. It is an easy install, but just remmember to un-install your old card drivers prior to installing the new card. Some new techs seem to forget that part.

Overall Review: Well worth the price, and NewEgg had it at my front door step 10 seconds after ordering it.

LG

LG Electronics 14X SATA Blu-ray Internal Rewriter without Software, Black Model WH14NS40 - OEM
LG Electronics 14X SATA Blu-ray Internal Rewriter without Software, Black Model WH14NS40 - OEM

Pros: Of course the price was right, and of course NewEgg is great for getting things ship real fast. This unit does what it is advertised to do, and installation is basic.

Cons: Does not come with any BluRay movie player software, and LG has none at their web site for download. Oh well, just another buck spent on for BluRay player software (application).

Overall Review: Well worth the NewEgg price, and finally, blank BluRay disks are getting lower in in cost.
