ASUS X99-PRO LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

5 out of 5 eggs Previous Gigabyte owner. 02/18/2015

This review is from: ASUS X99-PRO LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: So I replaced my gigabyte x99 soc force with this board and wow what a difference. I was unable to maintain oc or xmp on my soc force board and was recommended to try none official beta bios, which I avoided. I read the reviews on this board and checked the frequency of bios updates which I highly recommend to anyone considering a x99 platform. the frequency of the updates won me over and it shows that asus wants there products to succeed. Now out of the box the Asus board took the bios update with ease and took to my oc and memory xmp profile. Now my 5930k sits at 4.3 and my ddr4 3000 gskill runs at rated 3000 speed which I was unable to obtain on the soc force. I had the gigabyte 990fxa ud7 with 9590 and was an awesome board and loved it, was a total disappointment switching to intel with the soc force board. Was suggested to try asus since I already own there g750 gaming laptop and loved it. Now this board has truly won me over for intel boards :P thanks for the awesome product.

Cons: So reading the mobo book trying to figure out how to properly install the m2 ultra 4x card without it effecting my 295x2 was kinda lacking information. really not a con but just new to the m2 scene and wana make sure it wont effect my current gpu performance in anyway. I only use 1 295x2 which is technically 2 cards in 1 but only use that and have no plans on adding another. So I personally think I should be fine adding the card in since my pci saturation is only the 295x2 and will now be adding in the ultra m2 card. Overall I should be fine just wanted more information in regards to crossfire and addition of m2 pci ultra card. it has a graph in the book but would have like more detailed information on how it effects crossfire if at all any. I know the 5930k has 40 lanes which should mean I can run my 2 gpus at x16 =32 and having 8 lanes to spare? so leaving 2 left. so with my configuration and understanding I should be ok. Nothing really to be considered a con really but putting my thoughts in here so maybe others will consider when purchasing. I only plan on running my 295x2 and will upgrade to the 395x2 if they ever come out and will refuse to use a sound card and the addition of the ultra 4x card it should really optimize my system to supreme lengths.

Other Thoughts: Overall-asus pro x99
5930k running at 4.3
gskill dd4 3000 running at rated speed
295x2 running at stock speeds
samsung evo 1t

looking to purchase the samsung 512g m2 for the ultra card as a boot drive :P

Pros: Ok so tested the card to make sure I didn't get a dead one due to reviews stating black screens etc. I due to believe it's people not doing there homework. Yes I uninstalled all my drivers and reinstalled and it was acting up, I redid the whole install with ddu tool from wagnard tools and wow made the difference. Could not use sapphire oc utility anymore but instead I use msi afterburner which does very well. The sapphire utility kept crashing no biggy had the issue with my 2x290s and so decided to switch to msi and bam works great. Killed 3d mark firestrike with a score of 17000+ paired with my 5930k.....This card has sold me on single card solutions even though it's a dual card, the whole experience has resolved the issue I was aiming to get rid of and that was stuttering....All my games play well maxed out at 2560x1080 on lg ultrawide 34" paired with my asus 144 24" for side monitoring and videos. This card is a beast and has sold me on never going to dual card set ups ever again lol

Cons: Cooling system has a kink in the hose that's hard to fix due to poor packaging. card is out my system stretched to length to help get rid of the kink before I put back in my system.

Other Thoughts: Card was well worth the 739$ price I paid. I see it now bordering 800$ and saw it early January hit 999$ glad I got the 739$ price.
Those wondering what temps you may get under custom loop here's some ideas on mine. I have a 400mm and a 260mm ultra thick rad to cool my loop and I barely hit 40c while in ps2 or bf4 and final fantasy realm reborn. Cpu is oced to 4.3 and card is stock at the moment.

Pros: So switched from amd 9590 and really surprised what an improvement this is over the amd in terms of gaming. some will argue that amd is better but really the stability of this compared to my 9590 is a little more eye opening and AWE when I play my games. The temps in comparison are entertaining the 5930k barely breaks 30c while the 9590 will creep up to 50c while gaming. My system is more than enough equaling more than 800mm of rad space to encompass 2 290s as well.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Don't get me wrong both cpu's serve a purpose and do well but for me the 5930k served my needs well while amd fell behind. even though I loved the 9590 but with the 5930k my gaming experience has been improved. now you may get similiar gaming on a 4790k and others may seek this as an alternative over the bigger brother 5930k to save money. I simply chose it cause of the memory speeds and ddr4. I'm a sucker for new tech and I love it.
