Most Critical Review

board has good reviews and looks good on paper,but...

GIGABYTE GA-Z87MX-D3H LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-Z87MX-D3H LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: excellent features (at least for me), well reputed manufacterer and good (or maybe even great reviews)

Cons: This board has been nothing but problems for the last 4 months. My new build appeared to be working but would freeze at random times. After a lot of problem solving and testing EVERYTHING (motherboard, cpu, psu, ram, hdd even CABLES,etc) I came to the conclusion that there is some slight incompatibility with my ram. manually DOWNclocking the ram to less than 1600MHz made it work. That took me 2 weeks of my spare time... Suddenly the last few days hard disks started working strangely. At first it would not finish booting if I had the second ssd on. I removed it and then there were issues with the dvd drive as well. Finally my storage drive at some point fails with messages like : ata2: hard resetting link ata2: SATA link down (SStatus 1 SControl 310) and I need to reboot so that it MIGHT work for a little longer. The disks are new, I tried them on other machines and are working perfectly. I am obviously suspecting it is the motherboard again... I will request support from gigabyte but I strongly suspect I am on my own so I will probably order a new asus or intel motherboard and then I am going to get over it.

Overall Review: This is 2 out of 2 for Gigabyte Z87 mobos. This was the first time in my life I chose Gigabyte products and I am not going to do it again.

Expected much more

GIGABYTE GA-Z87M-D3H 1.0 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-Z87M-D3H 1.0 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great specifications and good price. It works quite well most of the time, I would almost recommend it!

Cons: Lots of instability problems. It appears that I need to manually set memory speed less than 1600MHz or the system hangs at random times. The memory I am using is 1866MHz rated but the system wont be stable at 1600! I have also noticed weird behaviour (system/wireless is not very responsive) when copying large files from the hard drive to usb memory (I am also using a usb wireless). Gigabyte support has been TERRIBLE (I contacted them before trying to lower memory frequencies, asking for help, they replied 1-2 days later saying essentially nothing and I am still waiting for them to reply!). I am also EXTREMELY curious why on earth do they throttle their web site? I was downloading the drivers from their web site at the breathtaking speed of 10-30kb/sec.

Overall Review: I only chose a gigabyte motherboard because I wanted to build a hackintosh (install osx). OSX works great WHEN the system is stable, but other than that I am totally dissappointed by Gigabyte, for which I had a high opinion, until I bought one of their products. I will stick with Intel and Asus motherboards in the future.
