Seagate FreeAgent Go 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ST910004FAA2E1-RK Tuxedo Black
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Seagate does it again. 03/23/2010

This review is from: Seagate FreeAgent Go 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ST910004FAA2E1-RK Tuxedo Black

Pros: Quiet, sleek, stackable, reliable. Most external drives I find have annoying lights or dumb stands, or are way too loud. Not this drive; it has a single green (not too bright) activity LED on front and is super quiet- youd never know it was on. Excellent drive.

Cons: I dont like having AC adaptors, even though this one is mid-connection so it doesnt hog the wall, it would be better if it were internal so you could plug the drive directly into the wall with a standard power cable like those found on monitors / desktop power supplies.

Other Thoughts: Retains ~900GB when formatted with ext4.

Didn't buy from newegg though, found it cheaper locally on sale.

Pros: its solid and has lots of interfaces.

Cons: while in the cradle it makes noise. put flat still makes a little noise. put upside down (vertically) and its now silent. i've gotten at least 1 or 2 bus errors while reading/writing on the firewire interface. trying it out with usb for a while, will check back later. will return if problems persist.

Other Thoughts: they obviously didnt properly test these units.
