Great value
Pros: Excellent image for text, browsing and video. Decent built-in speakers that can play loud enough to hear across the room. 2 HDMI and 1 VGA input. No power-on lights directed at the user. Often on promotion, can be bought for the price of non-IPS monitors.
Cons: Did not come with an HDMI cable, and may not resume from sleep depending on the quality of such cable (I tried two new cables, both supposedly HDMI 1.3, a 6ft one that gave resume problems, and a thicker, 15ft one that gives the expected resume behavior). Has to be turned upside down to connect cables. The neck is rather fragile and if you try to lean the monitor forward to connect cables, you'll probably end up damaging the neck (which may explain the wobble that many complain about but I haven't observed). The location of the buttons takes some getting used to (I place my fingers over them and learned to count them from the left).
Overall Review: ASUS tech support should offer an HDMI cable to owners that run into the resume problem.
Poor interlaced video display, low sound
Pros: Works adequately for text and web browsing.
Cons: Displays interlaced video at half resolution (e.g. 480i becomes 240 lines). The built-in speakers do not play loud enough, and there is no audio out, so you can't simply connect some computer speakers (and if you're using HDMI, often you can't connect those at the source either). IPS monitors have nicer image and no longer cost much more.
Overall Review: Thanks Newegg for allowing me to return this and buy another monitor (IPS, at the same price after rebate!) with none of the cons of this one.
Surprisingly good value
Pros: Great space saver and unbelievable value. Arrived quickly. Marked refurbished but without any scratches, with all cables and accessories, and working perfectly. I tried classical and popular music on CDs and USB pendrive, dramas on DVD and Crackle (internet), action movies on BlueRay disk and Netflix (over DSL), and an adventure movie from TV PVR-recorded on an external hard drive, and in all tests the sound and image was very good to excellent. This system can play very loud without noticeable distortion. The digital sound effects (e.g. symphony hall, matrix surround, MP3 enhancer) are nicely done and actually useful. 2 HDMI and one AUX input tested and working well.
Cons: My other system with separate Panasonic BlueRay player, Yamaha receiver and huge speakers has image that is slightly more refined and a fuller sound, but it cost many times more and occupies a lot more space. FM sound is only fair (but on a par with my other system's). Many SmartHub apps are marked as free but actually are teasers and require subscription. I was surprised that no app is available for AmazonInstantVideo, while much less popular Target video (who knew?) is supported. Some built-in default apps may raise privacy concerns (unless opted out). System did not arrive with all firmware upgades. Other cons that I haven't tested again after the firmware upgrade: DLNA did not work smoothly, SmartHub screen quite laggy.
