G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL10S-8GBXL

Pros: storage size, price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've had these in my computer for 2+ years, I maxed out my DIMM with 4 of these (32 GB), although I typically don't even use half that much with regular use. After several hours they do seem to get hot, but I have a fan blowing over them just in case.

Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5

Pros: Fast Enough, None failed, thin, size, price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have had 6 of these in my machine for 2+ years now, with no noticed or reported read/write issues. I've used various versions of debian linux: ubuntu 12.04...xubuntu 14.04. Some are partitioned into multiple drives (eg boot, swap, root) and some are single partitioned (ext3/4).

2 out of 5 eggs Loud and Noisy 09/27/2014

This review is from: MASSCOOL FDC08025S1M 80mm Cooling Fan

Pros: The flow rate seems accurate (~30+ CFM)

Cons: Sound Level and Noise

Other Thoughts: I purchased 3 of these fans, along with different amounts of various other fans (from newegg), to physically compare them knowing some of my purchases would make it to the trash. I was looking for optimal trade off between flow rate and sound level. These fans did start off quiet (maybe the advertised 22 dBA), but got louder over months. Two developed an additional vibrational noise, which I wasn't able to get rid of by: A) fiddling with them, B) adding (some sort of) oil to what I believe were the bearings, or finally C) hitting them hard or D) real hard.
