Pros: I've put this thing through its paces. Borderlands 2, Skyrim, Diablo 3, NFS The Run are all very playable at meduim setting. And for a $600 machine thats impressive. Great look and feel to the chassis. The speakers are the best of the many notebooks I have owned. On key muting is a great feature.
Cons: HDD is still slow. Plenty of bloatware.
Other Thoughts: For best picture setting and sound I've found it best just too leave one key theathre in movie mode. The contrast is much nicer, and the sound becomes much richer and volume increases as well. I highly recommend the y480. I like it soo much I think Im going to buy the Y580 as wellREAD FULL REVIEW
Pros: 600 bucks for an Ivy bridge Core I5 and a dedicated Nvidia gpu! Great size, makes it very easy for me to take to work everyday. Backlit keyboard will make most happy, though I've yet to find a notebook whose screen didnt give off enough light to see the keyboard.
Cons: 5400rpm HDD is definitely the weak link. A quality ssd will make a huge difference. Also after extensive research and an hour on the phone with Lenovo's tech support, I was able to verify that this laptop indeed is equipped with the much slower GT 640m LE 1 GB GDDR5 with 96 shaders. It would have been nicer to have the Gt 640m or even the GT 640m LE with the 384 shaders. I knew this before I purchased it, but would have gladly paid the extra premium for the real GT 640 or even the 650m.
Other Thoughts: Newer Y480 is available through Lenovo with an i7 and the GT 650m. Already bought mine, but wish I would have seen the newer one sooner.
People keep complaining about the resolution of 1366x768, but frankly the res is perfect for a 14" screen. After all most 15.6" notebooks have the same native res. It also helps the slower 640m LE keep up with newer games.
Pros: Two of these just plain rocks. These laugh at Skyrim and Battlefield 3, Saints row the third as well. Even sandwiched together on the evga z68 sli motherboard they run cool and quite.
Cons: 700 dollar price tag for two is steep, but worth every penny.
Other Thoughts: Just buy one, or two and you'll never regret it.
