G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-1866C9D-8GAB
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Fast
Lower profile fits under the CPU cooler
Rock-solid for over a year

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Got it on sale for 59.99. I should have bought two kits for 16GB total.
BIOS initially set the RAM to 1600 MHz. It accepted 1866 with no problem.

  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Very fast
Unlocked (K) processor for easy overclocking
Built-in graphics (Intel HD 4000) is actually pretty good... for intergrated graphics
Easy installation
Well-packaged

Cons: Comes with a wimpy little cooler. I used a COOLER MASTER Hyper TX3 92mm.

Other Thoughts: Got it on sale for $225
Running at 4.0 GHz
This is a huge upgrade for me; my previous PC had an Intel Celeron D 335, single-core 2.8 GHz processor.
Some programs view this CPU as quad-core, some see it as an 8-core

Cons: Will be discontinued someday in favor of Windows 8, which is inferior

Other Thoughts: Best OS ever (although XP was very good too)
