Pros: Good workhorse laptop, but lets you play and run media with ease. Keyboard is the right size, even with the numpad you never feel cramped while typing. Battery lasts for hours. Speakers are nice and loud when watching movies. LED backlit screen looks awesome in all uses. The aluminum casing looks professional and stylish, and the weight is perfect for a laptop this size. The hard drive has Windows 7 Pro on it, and has both Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 Pro media in the box, as well as a driver disc. As with any new computer, there is a certain amount of bloatware to uninstall, but most of the included utilities seem helpful and run rather well. I may not push my standard Windows 8 image to this one right away.
Cons: There is really only one minor negative that I've been able to come up with in 6 months. The top of the base is significantly larger than the bottom, which causes the following usability problems for me:
- You have to physically lift the laptop to unplug a network cable. Not generally an issue as I rarely use anything other than WiFi with this device, but thought I'd mention it.
- You also have to lift the laptop when popping the disc drive out. This may be partially due to how shallow the eject button is, but it is a minor inconvenience because, again, I don't use the drive very often. Your mileage may vary.
- I use this laptop in bed quite often due to an injury and was forced to buy a lap desk as the shape causes all vents to be blocked when using it on a soft surface of any kind. It's perfectly fine sitting on a desk or similar hard surface though.
Other Thoughts: I bought 5 of these laptops for a client 6 months ago and the execs loved them. We tested them in our IT department for several weeks before giving them out and were also very happy with them. When my ancient T60 was stolen from my father's house a few weeks ago, I went ahead and bought myself one based on the feedback from our client - if that's not a good endorsement, I don't know what is.READ FULL REVIEW
