This review is from: Koutech IO-UVD130 USB 3.0 to DVI Video Adapter
Pros: I needed to add a 3rd monitor to my wife's computer and was limited to 3 approaches. I could get a PCI-e 1x video card, a USB monitor, or a USB to DVI adapter. Having bought the GWC USB 3.0 to DVI Adapter AN3420 for my work computer and having good results with it, I decided to try the Koutech adapter. Its specs are similar to the GWC and its a few dollars less. The Koutech works well and we were able to watch 1080P YouTube videos on the monitor connected to the adapter without any stuttering.
Cons: I expected the Koutech to be able to handle Blu Ray playback but it does not. Looking at DISPLAYLINK.COM, I found out that only a few adapters handle HDCP. Newegg does sell some of the models that can do this. Its not important in my wife's setup but its worth mentioning it in case someone expects the adapter to be capable of something it is not.
Other Thoughts: Comparing it to the GWC AN3420, the Koutech seems to be just a bit cheaper built but that wouldn't stop me from getting another one.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Plug and play, what can I say. I tried this out on two different systems. The first was at work where I wanted a third monitor. I installed the software and hooked up a 1366x768 monitor to my laptop (core i5 w/ windows 7 32 bit) and voila, I had a 3rd monitor. Couldn't have been easier. I could not test any video or gaming on this setup since it was at work but the extended desktop worked well. Couldn't have been easier. Second setup was at home. I was adding a second monitor to a desktop. This computer was running Win 7 64 bit and I was adding a 1680x1050 monitor. Again, a flawless install. I was able to stream a 1080p youtube video without any stuttering at all. I am not sure if the good performance was due to usb 3.0 or not.
is was becauseI plan on getting another adapter
Cons: I found it a bit odd that the "USB" cable was different than what I expected. Looks like not all USB cables can be used with this adapter. This is not a problem for me, just an observation.
Other Thoughts: The Koutech IO-UVD130 USB 3.0 to DVI Video Adapter appears to be the same as this one, with the same "USB" cable and it is $51 delivered compared the GWC one which was $58 delivered. I plan on ordering the Koutech one for work and keeping the GWC one at home.READ FULL REVIEW
