Antec Sonata Series SOLO II Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Case went together beautifully. Clean edges, all neatly finished. Elegant minimal look. (with caveat on the power switch LED)
Sound proofing on side panels & etc.
Nice ventilation; very nice removable filters.
Everything runs cool only with fan that came with.
Top mount psu.

Cons: Pretty but big. Probably overpriced. They almost got it, but missed a few design & engineering details.
1. Front panel is not ALL aluminum, perhaps part of it is.
2. Front panel has a slight rattle, audible a6 2 feet away. There probably should be a hinge in the middle, as well as on the top & bottom.
Very Un-pleased about door rattle. Will have to cure that some way.
3. Blue LED which lights up Power switch shows through the left side air vents in the middle of the Front panel. They should have enclosed that light somehow; this defeats the elegant understated appearance.

Other Thoughts: Antec sent me a USB3 to USB2 converter cable on request, at no charge. Had ordered a non-USB3 mobo but now all 4 front USB ports will be available.

Acer S220HQLAbd Black 21.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Nice, clean, chear, sharp display. 1900 x 1280 resolution. No dead pixels. Good color; several color "modes" to choose from.
Came with DVI & VGA cable.
Monitor clicks positively into its mount, which has a nifty thumbscrew device that locks into the base.
Wonderful amount of display area.

Cons: Settings interface & buttons are a little hard to use. Instructions in User manual are somewhat less than clear. Not much of a con, since once it's setup, it's not necessary to go back into the menu again.
Power cable includes a brick. This is a smallish, light brick, but it would have been nice to know in advance.

Other Thoughts: It was a little difficult to get the monitor mounted on the stand. Contrary to the quick setup instructions, we had to mount the collar onto the back of the monitor FIRSt, then place this into the stand.
The straight-in DVI cable sort-of defeats the purpose of the slimline design. It would be nice to have a 90-angle DVI cable (if they even exist), to go along with the slim profile of this unit.
In a Linux OS, it might be necessary to edit a config file to reflect the Horiz & Vert settings, and the 1900 x 1280 resolution. But it looks beautiful once the monitor settings were specified. This is running just beautiful under Debian Lenny.
We'll see how long this lasts. The monitor it replaced (same MFR) lived just about 3 years from date of manufacture.

MOTOROLA SB6120 Cable Modem SURFboard eXtreme 160Mbps in DOCSIS mode and 195Mbps in EuroDOCSIS mode Ethernet Port DOCSIS 3.0
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: This is probably the best DOCSIS 3 modem available today. Motorola surfboards have always been good, but this item is marvelous! It's fast and rock-solid. Fast setup --ISP had no problem provisioning it. We now have four bonded channels coming down, very solid connection --now experiencing zero slowdown even during peak-usage periods.
Diagnostics pages and logs are easy to reach and interpret. Placement of lights makes sense. Sits solid on the desk --not tippy even with coax and four ethernet cables in back.
Very pleased! This unit is well worth the investment.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Running this unit along with a Netgear WNR3500L router. These two units work perfectly together. With the router behind the modem, we're receiving the same speed down as if we had only one computer hooked straight into the modem.
