This review is from: D-Link DNS-320L Diskless System ShareCenter 2-Bay Cloud Storage 2000
Pros: Fantastic features including a wizard that sets up a website to access your storage from the internet. Nice GUI menu structure. Firmware is similar to FreeNAS and NAS 4Free but with easier and faster to setup. You don't need to build PC with the expense of CPU, memory and a case.
Cons: The box I received had password and setup issues. After 3 days of repeated resets I finally got the box to setup. When I tried to make changes, the menus in the Windows-GUI failed to function. A complete reset was required erasing the setup options and HD. I returned the system to Newegg for exchange. and ordered another.
Other Thoughts: Because of the fantastic features this box promises to be a great 2nd home server. I hope the replacement functions Ok.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Now that have 2 of these hard drives, I can plug them into a NAS-Server Chassis (D-Link DNS-320L). The D-Link server will be a perfect substitute for my previous Linux server at a fraction of the cost. With a little luck the D-Link documentation and support may also be better than SME Linux was.
Other Thoughts: None.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders Single Pack DVD
Pros: After 2-weeks of attempts to install and get past the blue screens, the OS appears to be stable and function "Ok" on my new ASUS Striker Extreem MOBO. The Start Menu Command "search/command line" is handy for those who know how to use it. It is nice to have an OS that can have more than 3GB memory installed.
Cons: Had to install 2GB(2x1GB) memory to enable OS installation. Had to unplug extra (SATA) hard drives to avoid blue screens. Had to download 64-bit patches from microsoft before installing the desired memory 4GB(2x2GB). After the OS was running I was able to add a 2nd hard drive. When viewing directories I wish that one could lock-down the display format for files, as it is irritating to have to reconfigure the columns, to see standard information like "file size" and the "last saved date". When running Excel the "Num Lock" key displays "Off" when it is actually "On". After shutting down USB drives, the LED indicators on sticks remain "On" instead of "Off". Is this an OS fault or purposely done? My 3.5" USB Disk Drive no longer functions after Vista-64 was installed.
Other Thoughts: It would be nice to see more software manufacturers get on track with Visa and Vista-64. The software industry is dragging their feet, not-to- mention utilization of dual and quad processors. Don't bother using IExplore (64-Bit) browser for the Web, as many features on most sites are not setup for 64-bit use.READ FULL REVIEW
