Pros: They still turn on...usually.
Cons: 2 of 2 units purchased have failed in a devastating fashion after less than a year of use. DD-WRT/3rd Party firmware "compatibility" is highly dependent on what revision of firmware and hardware you have. Flash from the wrong base firmware version and your 3500L is bricked and must be restored via TFTP. Occasionally 1 of 2 units will re-enable it's DHCP server, causing the whole network to go down.
The second unit randomly broadcasts packets to the network, causing packet flooding and STP issues.
Other Thoughts: Would not recomend.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Great price/form factor for low profile server needs. See "other thoughts for details."
Cons: Hard drive mounting is a little wonky. Not enough of a complaint to remove an egg.
Other Thoughts: Have this box loaded with a low TDP Xeon L3426, 4GB of Kingston ECC ram, a dynatron CPU cooler, and an Intel 80GB SSD running an Untangle firewall. Superb performance, not a single issue under load.
Would be more excellent if riser card supported 2 PCIe cards, like Dell or HP 1RU servers. But it is a half length chassis, so not a real problem.
Pros: works great in Supermicro X8SIL mobo / 5016I-MR barebones server. Works as advertised, no memory related issues whatsoever.
Cons: doesn't install itself.
Other Thoughts: I have used this kingston part number in a dozen or so Supermicro X8SIL based boxes and it has always worked perfectly the first time. Great choice for a dual memory channel/socket 1156 server.READ FULL REVIEW
