This review is from: Seagate Backup Plus 1TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop Hard Drive STCA1000100 Black
Pros: Didn't quit yet. I can't believe the number of brand new HD failures I read in the reviews of all drives. Easy installation. Quiet. Simple setup.
Cons: For Mac or PC backups not both.
Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to backup my pictures in Picasa on my Macbook Pro after the Western Digital failed (fell one foot to floor).
When you install the drive you need to make a choice, either all Mac or the ability to have Windows and Mac read the files. If you pick all Mac you're tied to Time Machine backups, which I didn't want or need as I already have a Synology network backup for all my computers. The Synology software lets me use Time Machine on my Mac and still use its backup management on my PCs.
Picking the Mac/Windows option the drive formats to NTFS with no options for any backup management. The only way then to move files from the Mac is drag and drop. I use the Picasa backup feature and that works fine. The "Backup Plus" software seems to work OK, better than Seagate's "GoFlex" software which I had problems with and ended up returning that drive.
There may be a way to partition the drive to get better options in Mac and Windows.
