Pros: Quiet and rugged, it does exactly what it's supposed to do. I've used it on 1 desktop and 2 laptops, USB3 and USB2, with no problems at all. I have had it running for a week at a time, it stayed merely warm and performed without error.
Other Thoughts: This does exactly what it says it will do.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Micro 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTMCK/16GB
Pros: Tiny, simple, no problems at all.
Other Thoughts: I use this in my car where the thumb drive sticks out of the faceplate of the stereo. Cars are moving, chaotic places, and having a regular thumb drive sticking out has lead to disaster in the past. The DT Micro hides completely out of the way.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Small, sturdy, quiet. I could feel it running when I held it, but the only other indication it was on was the power/activity LED. Great capacity for the price.
Cons: Still a spinning magnetic media, so it's not as fast as an SSD would be. But since no SSD will match is price for years, this really isn't a Con.
Other Thoughts: I configured this to be an encrypted disk on Linux, and filled the disk with random data. It ran writing continuously for a week without problems.
Works with USB2 at 20+MBps write, about 28MBps read. My motherboard's USB3 port achieved 20-40MBps write, 45+MBps read speeds. The fluctuations in the speeds seem to be due to buffers being flushed, so the write speed indicator never stabilized.
One interesting note, I reformatted in NTFS yesterday as a test, it only reached 75% complete after 9 hours when I had to stop. Formatting in EXT4 took less than 15 minutes.
