Pros: I'll Start by saying this is a top of the line laptop.
Everything I do on it runs smoothly, opens quickly, and the system never bogs down with all the RAM it has.
I was blown away with how loud the speakers are. They are slightly washed out sounding, but I find myself not using my external mini speaker nearly as much as I thought that I would.
The touchpad is huge, and actually not that uncomfortable for gaming on.
Asus also includes their app Smart Gesture, It's really nice and works very well. It also supports up to 5 fingers and it's very sensitive, I have no idea what you would do with five fingers though.
Rotate (only works with pictures as far as I know)
Swipe left and right for back and forward
Swipe up to basically alt+tab
Swipe down the show desktop, and again to go back to the windows you were just using
The screen is bright and white levels are pretty spot on, my screen was a tad on the warm side out of the box.
Wi-fi range works better than my phones, and Bluetooth operates with very little to no lag.
The laptop is also very quiet, and the fan does a very good job at cooling when it needs to.
That being said the laptop does get very hot when playing games (like all laptops really) but when you're just browsing the internet watching videos (or writing Newegg reviews) the laptop stays at 45 to 55 C. Playing games 65 to 80 C that's definitely on the warm side. Maybe there's a way to boost the fan speed... regardless you might want to think about a cooler tray for the laptop to sit on.
This laptop plays everything! I'm currently playing Bioshock infinite (mid low settings) and I'm almost always above 40fps (it does slow down when new areas load)
Other games like TF2 CS:S CS:GO all play perfectly on high settings. RIFT the MMO also plays pretty good on lower settings, as long as you have the shadows turned low or off it's pretty much an average of 25fps Dwarf fortress also plays very good on this laptop because of it's full keyboard layout. The last fortress I was playing had 70 or so dwarves on a slightly small than default embark. It was probably playing on average about 35-45 fps.
The palm area is made of aluminum and is pretty much always cool to the touch.
This laptop has a ton of storage space, and the HDD performs very speedy for being 5400RPM There's also a ton of RAM and it's also very fast MaxMem test 18.6GB/s
Cons: Not much to say.
It's pretty hot when playing games.
The screen is kinda washed out, and needs adjusting. If you never play games you might not notice, but when I first played CS:S pretty much all the white in the maps were blending in really badly.
In windows 8 there's an annoying feature that's turned on by default. It's a touch delay and stops you from clicking with the touchpad after you've clicked a key on the keyboard.
You can easily disable this by sliding the mouse to the top right, go to settings > Change PC Settings > PC and Devices > Mouse and Touchpad > under Touchpad, make sure the setting is No delay (always on)
Once you change that you'll be able to play games with the touchpad. :)
The battery life is kinda all over the place. I know that when I'm playing games I shouldn't expect more that about 1hr 45min - 3hr 30min, that's fine, that's what I get.
Sometimes with regular use I might drop %20 in less that 15min when watching a video. Other times It'll last a lot longer, like the other day I watched Porco Rosso which is about 90min, it only dropped %26
I'm not all that unhappy with the battery life, it's just strange how inconsistent it can be.
Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop for $535, refurbished and on sale from $750 There really isn't a better laptop out there for the price.READ FULL REVIEW
