3 out of 5 eggs Artic MX4 is better 09/01/2015

This review is from: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound AS5-3.5G

Pros: In tests conducted with 10 manufactures paste Artic MX4 consistently was the better paste with the lower temps beating some of artic silvers other types by up to 10c.
Cool is what were after. A 1 gram tube should do more then 15 PC-30 PCs

Cons: None

QNAP TS-470 Pro Diskless System 4-bay Home & SOHO NAS For Personal Cloud And Multimedia Experience

Pros: After reading Maximum PCs article on the 5 best NAS servers this clearly had the best performance and feature set, I was not let down. Beats Synology too. It feeds beautifully even in my fussy WD netflix DNLA etc TV inputs with MKVs avis mpgs mp4s and just about anything I want. Although many people use Twonky which QNAP has built in, the built in Multimedia Program does fine without any issues. Uses Qfile Androids and I-Macs (mac) both work great too. MXplayer is the goto along with Qfile to play movies stored in the QNAP. QNAP has a Intel 2 core chip and 2gigs ram. Much better then the Risc chips that all the others use with 256-512megs being the norm.

Cons: Expensive, no drives included

Other Thoughts: Recommend using WD Black ENTERPRISE. These have features designed to work in raid. The WD Reds are no good and if you look up the reveiws they have a very high failure rate. Why would you spend a lot of money for this type of unit to throw it away with bad HDs. RAID 5 recommended.

WD Red 3TB NAS Desktop Hard Disk Drive - Intellipower SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD30EFRX

1 out of 5 eggs WD Red The good the bad & the ugly 06/25/2014

This review is from: WD Red 3TB NAS Desktop Hard Disk Drive - Intellipower SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD30EFRX

Pros: Cost. Maybe if they fix the reliabilty issues the ability to work together in raid systems

Cons: Reliability. Poor speed.
The first itteration of these drives was notoriously unreliable. Although they are designed to work best in a raid configuration their performance is the worst of all major brands. The cost while good is not worth the hassle.

Other Thoughts: Thosxe who write off WD after using these are making a mistake. My question is why would anybody interested in the redundancy of a raid system spend the extra money to by multiple hard drives and not get enterprise drives. The WD Black Enterprise support all the latest raid technology are wickedly quick and stone reliable. Regular Blacks are not the best for raid. The Reds are just not ready for prime time in any application.
