SeaSonic ECO 300 300W SFX12V (v.3.1) 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: less than 1 day

Pros: So quiet I can only hear a noise if I take off the case and put my ear next to the fan.

Fits SFX-compatible cases like microATX.

Cons: The basic dimensions of the PSU itself are 125mm x 100mm x 64mm, and the fan housing protrudes an additional 12.5mm from that. It slightly overlaps a corner of my motherboard, which would prevent me from plugging anything into there if that was necessary (which it isn't).

Other Thoughts: I replaced a PSU that sounded like a jet engine, with intensely heated exhaust too. The Seasonic is worlds better. Hopefully it is as reliable as people say.

FSP Group FSP300-60GLS-MJR 300W Micro ATX 80 PLUS Certified Power Supply

1 out of 5 eggs Failed after 1 year 09/16/2009

This review is from: FSP Group FSP300-60GLS-MJR 300W Micro ATX 80 PLUS Certified Power Supply

Pros: When it worked, it was great: steady and quiet, and it was one of the reasons I bought a Mt Jade case.

FSP is one of the brands I turned to after Antec PSUs went through that rough spot a number of years back, and I had been happy with them up til now.

Cons: After a year and a week of (nearly continuous) operation, I walked out of the office one day and (judging from logs) the Power Supply simply failed 5 minutes after I closed my door.

It was not under any special load, nor was there any peculiar conditions that day. It simply refused to power-up any longer, but at least it appears that it did not damage any other components.

I don't expect any component to last forever, but 1 year and 1 week is weak.

Other Thoughts: I've had power supplies fail spectacularly in the past, so I'm very careful about which ones I choose nowadays. This is the first PSU failure I've had to deal with in 5 years.

GIGABYTE GA-EG43M-S2H LGA 775 Intel G43 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Fanless chipset cooling. Lots of plugs (if they worked).

Cons: DVI / HDMI ports simply don't work for me. Nothing at all. Not even BIOS POST will display through them. Kind of annoying, since I bought the board for them. Though it doesn't seem like other people are having this problem.

I would also like to smack the board layout designer who thought it was brilliant to place the secondary ATX power cable all the way on the far side of the board from the PSU, certainly not close to the main plug-in. I have to get some kind of cable extender if I want to use a PCI slot, because right now the secondary ATX power cable is stretched tight over them.

Other Thoughts: Intel Linux video drivers are unstable. This isn't a Con because I knew this would be a problem going in, it's just a fact of life on the bleeding edge. Stick with a G33 if this is going to be a problem...

Ethernet wasn't a problem surprisingly. Realtek drivers installed fine even with debian stable kernel 2.6.18.

I suppose if I get a cheap PCI-E card I can resolve my problems. But I bought this board because I wouldn't need to get a separate video card. Sigh.
