Best Bang for your Buck!
Pros: It's SATA for one, this thing can fly even though its 500 GB! It's fairly cheap compared to other drives of the same size. and of course it's Western Digital.
Cons: These run very hot! If you have them in a 1u case like we do, you need some serious fan power. Don't let this get you down though, if you know what you are doing, this won't be a problem.
Overall Review: We have switched from many different hard drive manufactures and western digital is by far the best. Most of the WD drives have laster 7+ years with only about 5% DOA. A lot of people complain about problems setting these drives in a RAID configuration. This is NOT due to the drive but the software you are using. If you don't want problems with a RAID configuration, use RAID hardware, not software, and don't use the cheap hardware as that is pretty much just software, you need the cards that cost more than $100.
Good Board, Bad NIC
Pros: Great board for the price, fast bus speed and room for a ton of memory. Manual was very imformative and the board is Intel so no compatibility issues with the processors.
Cons: NIC card uses a funny driver in Linux. After a while of running, the cards crashes and you need to restart the server. There has been no fix for the problem either.
Overall Review: If you get this board, get a NIC card because you are going to need it in order for the server to work 24/7 without the onboard nic freezing up.
Great Backup Solution on the Cheap
Pros: Extremely cheap cost for the size of this external drive. Has a Gig ethernet port, very rich in features via web interface. Great for streaming media. Extra USB slot for MORE space. It's made by Western Digital.
Cons: Very slow when accessing SSH for advanced features. The software that comes with it is junk. Web interface can be really slow at times as well.
Overall Review: A lot of people complain that this drive is slow which is not the case. The software that it comes with is pure junk, do not even bother to install. Most problems from other reviews are coming due to this software which will indeed, cause slowness for you in all aspects. If you use it as a network share or any other way instead of using the software, it moves quick. USE THE WEB INTERFACE TO SET IT UP, DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE! If you need a backup solution use Microsoft's FREE SyncToy on their website. Much better than the software that comes with this drive, feature rich and faster. Definitely more Pros than Cons, cannot beat this for the cost. Do not accept anything less than Western Digital, those are the only drive I or my company will buy.
Powerful, quiet, and tons of cables!
Pros: It's 750 Watts!! This thing is great, we threw it in a server with 4 gb, an intel quad processor, 3 hard drives and with 7 expansion cards and this thing hasn't skipped a beat. If you need serious power like us, this is the power supply for you. Lots and lots of cables, see the pictures and specifications as if you need a lot of cables, nothing beats this.
Cons: This thing runs HOT! However that isn't a problem as it has two powerful fans so we're not worried about it.
Overall Review: When choosing a power supply, look very closely to what kind of cables it has along with wattage. Most modern computers need at least 300W and if you on the edge of technology, you need at least 500W. Also beware of those power supplies that are less than $50 as usually those are junk.
Excellent once you use the WAN link
Pros: Ability to install an OS remotely without a physical cd, just an ISO. Control the BIOS level without being there, this thing is a life saver! The price is cheap compared to other KVMs
Cons: The LAN link is worthless.
Overall Review: For the longest time we always had problems with this kvm switch. However, after much research, we learned that the LAN link always gave out for no reason so we switch the network cable to the WAN link and we haven't had any problems since. This is a great solution for anyone on a budget that needs the functions of the higher end IP KVMs.
Poorly designed chassis
Pros: Newegg got it here on time as usual.
Cons: The case is very pooly designed and made of flimsey aluminum. The best thing I can compare it to is a pop can which is easily crushed. The hotswaps are anything but and are not very stable and can pop up if you are not holding the case level.
Overall Review: If you need a reliable 1u chassis, this is not the case for you. Spend the extra money to get a chassis that won't be crushed like a pop can.
