This review is from: Seagate Expansion 3TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV3000100 Black
Pros: Cost, Size.
Cons: As many others have stated, this drive started failing right out of warranty.
At first it seemed just a fluke, I could dismount and power cycle the drive and it would work fine again for weeks.
Other Thoughts: I don't like giving one egg reviews but I think it's necessary in this case, to drag the average down. HDD's are not something to take lightly! This drive probably deserves 2 or 3 eggs, but you have to understand that it's not a reliable piece of hardware. So, one egg in my book.
I thought this would be a good investment, because I own another Seagate Expansion Drive (Model 9SF2A6-500, 1.5 TB), which has and continues to work flawlessly for 2.5 years as a networked drive holding all my music, movies, etc. It also contains all the content for my ShoutCast stream which has been running pretty much continually for the same amount of time. Also moved it cross-country twice with no issues.
If you need a lot of storage on short notice and don't have a lot of loot (which was my exact situation), then this is a fantastic drive. But always remember to have backups, or be prepared to upgrade in the NEAR future. Luckily for me, this drive was only used to store backups of my DVD/BluRay collection so nothing of real importance was lost, other than my time and money. I would certainly advise against using this as storage for anything you can't afford to lose.
This is the last time I will purchase a Seagate product; I've always used WD drives and have never had a problem with one, except those pushing over 10 years.
This review is from: RAVPower® RP-PB08 Slim Power Bank (2600mAh/1A Output) w/ Built-in Flashlight, for Smartphone&Tablet:iPad 4, iPad Mini, iPhone 5, 4S, 4G;Samsung Galaxy Note 2, S3, S2;Lumia 920 and other Mobile Devices
Pros: Very compact, simple design, relatively hefty construction.
Enough of a multitasker to justify it being a daily-carry item. (emergency power AND a flashlight)
Works very well as a charger.
Cons: The flashlight on the unit I received was very finicky.
Would like to have some kind of cover for the connections on the back.
Other Thoughts: Works Great as a backup charger. Gives me more than one full charge on my old Samsung Galaxy S.
The flashlight function on the unit I received was pretty weak. There is definitely a shoddy connection with the LED; more than half the time it doesn't work when turned on, and I have to tap (or rather gently touch) the lens to get the light working. The quality of the flashlight is really no better than the $2 ones you find in the checkout lane at the supermarket.
BUT the flashlight is really supposed to be a secondary function, I guess. It still would be nice if there were a little more attention paid to the flashlight.
An RMA would cost me $11, which is darn near what I paid for the thing (on a weekend special), so I think I'll just eat the sub-par flashlight and keep the unit as is.
On a side note I think it would be nice if there were some kind of cover for the USB ports on the unit. Even just a cheap rubber cap would be better than having them exposed.
Overall a very good unit and GREAT as a charger, just don't expect a great flashlight. 3 Eggs since I expected more out of the torch.
This review is from: Acer X1261P XGA 1024x768 2700 Lumens 3D Ready DLP Projector
Brightness & Contrast Ratio.
Decent resolution and supports 1600x1200
Cons: No air filters!
Moving parts (fans and color wheel) seem low quality
Other Thoughts: I am revisiting my review 2 years after purchase with my experiences.
This was a fantastic projector for the price and served me well for almost exactly 2 years, a good investment. I never had to buy a new bulb even with pretty heavy use, though the brightness was obviously diminished by the end of its tenure. This projector went with me on two cross-country moves and spent a year in a bachelor pad which was a smoking environment. It also was moved around quite a bit to different venues. The projector held up and functioned very well, except for the two following issues...
11 months after purchase, both the fan and color wheel started acting up, causing the projector to automatically shut down. Acer replaced these parts for free as it was still in warranty, and their service only took about a week total (including shipping times).
after another year, the fan started acting up yet again. Since it was out of Acer warranty, I sent it to ServiceNet (I had purchased the 2 year extended plan) who refunded the purchase price with basically no-questions-asked.
Bottom line- this is a nice projector and the price is certainly right, I still rate it 4 Eggs. I would certainly recommend it both to people looking for an "entry-level" projector and to those who have owned projectors in the past but who are not looking to spend the big bucks. Unless you have owned a really nice projo in the past, you will not likely be disappointed.
But I would advise against using it in dusty or smoking environments. Expect to have some issues with the moving parts (fan & color wheel) and definitely get the extended ServiceNet warranty!
