Lenovo T430 upgrade
Pros: Inexpensive.
Cons: No idea it was DDR3L (1.35v) until it arrived. Why is this not in title?
Overall Review: Worked great to upgrade my corporate T430 laptop from 4GB to 8. Even coexisted with regular DDR3 RAM onboard with no problem.
Cheap
Pros: Inexpensive for an i5 and 8 GB. Packed well. Arrived slightly later (1/2 day) than tracking indicated but no big deal.
Cons: Super cheap keyboard and mouse is disappointing. Unit looks okay but has giant sticker applied to the sides (hiding scratches I guess) and some dings on the faceplate. I guess I didn't expect the case to have seen such rough handling.
Overall Review: I wish they'd have sprung an extra $10 for a Dell keyboard and mouse, I didn't notice they were off-brands in the photo.
Signal strength worse than G
Pros: Decent configuration program
Cons: Awful reception. In the same location as my G router it performs much worse. Spotty reception even 50 ft away at my house. Consistently dropped connections in B/G/N mode. Switched to G/N only mode and the drops went away but the reception still stinks. Now I have to buy another.
Two bad in a row
Pros: None
Cons: This is the second board of the same model that has arrived DOA. Intel support cannot even begin to diagnose it because there are no beeps and only two pointless LEDs. Same CPU, RAM and power work elsewhere.
Poor setup and requires reboots...
Pros: Great feature set, fast, dual band
Cons: Web-based setup cannot turn off guest network. Buggy firmware requires reboot every 2-3 days.
Overall Review: The only way to turn off the guest network is to run the PC software setup, you can't do it in the normal web-based setup. But doing that resets all the settings I have already made. Grrrrrr.
Defective, apparently common problem
Pros: Micro ATX for an i7 CPU
Cons: Defective. Debug codes not in manual or website. EVGA RMA options started at like $30 for slowest shipping - pretty sad.
Overall Review: Flashed F3, Fb, F6, 6B, then F3, F6, F3, etc. Tech support immediately knew what codes I was seeing, so this is not a rare issue. They seemed to think it was a memory controller and had me reseat the CPU several times and try moving the memory around, but no luck.
