Pros: Good as long as they work. Fast and quiet.
Cons: Three out of three had to be replaced. After months of problem free usage they started to reallocate more and more sectors.
The disk were mostly idle since I use mostly Internet and here everything is on RAM disks at my computer. So there is almost no disk access at the hard disks then.
Other Thoughts: Use a software that can warn you of SMART value changes. Otherwise you might find out problems when it is too late already. But this is a good idea for all disks of any brand.
After more than 40 years of computer experience I can tell you that not only Seagate disks have such problems. Just recently my notebook disk died after just a couple of days usage and it was not a Seagate. So ALWAYS have a working backup.
Pros: I was VERY happy for a while.
Cons: In total I have 6 of them. 3 of them are in a RAID 0 setup. All off them got bad sectors after some months and all had to be replaced. And most of the time they run idle since I use the Internet only. And they even have a fan so that they do not get hot.
The other 3 disks don't really count since they are offline backup disks with in total only some days run time - I just switch them on for the time of the backup.
So if you look at the 3 RAID 0 disks then after about 18 months 100 percent had to be replaced.
The good thing was that the disks to not die immediately. But I have a software that reports every S.M.A.R.T. change. You should have the same otherwise you will discover the disaster too late.
Other Thoughts: I have disks of other brands too. But honestly they are not much better. One of them lost all sectors after 16 days already within some minutes.
I do not know what to do anymore. I have more and more data and the disks get worse and worse. I even have a backup of the backup. But I do not want to continue like this. Now I want to buy a 2 TB disk. But this firmware has this problem and the other firmware cannot be upgraded and has the same problem. And the serial number A has 2 platters and the serial number B of the same disk has 3 platters and is slower and so on. Just gets on my nerves...
Cons: The problem started when I bought a Cooler Master case. The fans there at least at the visible area have blue LEDs. In the meantime I tried to replace fans several times because the LEDs just stopped working after a short time Just sit here again with an almost new fan and only 3 LEDs working.
This product should not be on the market. Don't waste 1 Cent for it. I am at any time willing to prove what I write here. This company just ripped me off with those bad fans.
