VANTEC CB-SATAU3-6 NexStar SATA 6Gbps to USB 3.0 Adapter - 2.5
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

2 out of 5 eggs Doesn't work with SATA DVD devices 08/01/2013

This review is from: VANTEC CB-SATAU3-6 NexStar SATA 6Gbps to USB 3.0 Adapter - 2.5"/3.5"/5.25"/SSDs

Pros: Works fine for hard drives. Very convenient for short term use.

Cons: Does not work with DVD drives from Samsung, Lite-On or LG. Vantec tech support said they would look into it and call me back. That was a long time ago. Never got a call or any response.

LG Nexus 4 E960 Black 3G Quad-Core 1.5GHz 16GB Unlocked Cell Phone
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Great phone but Newegg orice 04/21/2013

This review is from: LG Nexus 4 E960 Black 3G Quad-Core 1.5GHz 16GB Unlocked Cell Phone

Pros: Fast. Great screen. No bloatware. Fast OS updates

Cons: No external storage, Glass back

Other Thoughts: Why would anyone buy this from Newegg when it is far cheaper direct from Google?

ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Nicely featured - on paper. relatively good value.

Cons: eSATA ports are worthless for writing to external devices.

Tech support is a joke

Other Thoughts: The write speed to an external eSATA device is very slow, around $-10 MB/s depending in file size. That's considerably slower than USB 2.0. Connecting an eSATA device to a SATA port on the motherboard gives write speeds of 110-180 MB/s.

ASUS online tech support, in response to a detailed email about the problem responded by asking me if it worked if a connected a eSATA drive. After two calls by phone, they set up an RMA.

Now I find from the ASUS forums this is a problem with the JMicron drivers for these ports. If a change the storage driver to standard IDE, write speeds are fine but hot swapping is lost, making these ports pretty useless. If eSATA performance is important, avoid this board.
