Pros: Used to replace PS on an older motherboard. Had no issue with installation. Fairly quiet compared to the rest of the fans in my system.
Cons: As this was used on an older ATX12v motherboard, some of the non-modular cables had to be tucked. SATA cables better for BTX as I had to awkwardly route them to the bottom of the case and back up. Otherwise, the SATA connectors would be upside-down. If they added an inch between the second and third SATA connectors, I would have been able to use one cable for my two burners and two HDD.
Other Thoughts: Most likely overkill for my needs, but it does what it's supposed to.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: SATA means less cable mess and faster data rates. I recently installed this drive and the ASUS SATA DVD-ROM. With both drives on SATA, I can rip and burn at the same time. This was not possible with EIDE as it always resulted with a buffer under-run when burning anything faster than 4X. Burned successfully at at all speeds. Haven't tried out the DVD-RAM format yet.
Cons: Lightscribe is just about useless. That's fault of the technology and not with this drive.
Other Thoughts: Owned this for several months, burned several hundred discs and still going. SATA power connectors only, so you will need an adapter if you only have 5-pin molex. Make sure you use SATA II cables so they lock in place. I have had problems with cheap SATA cables wiggling loose.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: I have sucessfully burned over 100 DVDs at 2.4, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 18X speeds. No problems burning data and video on SL and DL discs.
Cons: Disc tray squeeking a little when opening/closing (needs a little grease).READ FULL REVIEW
