CM Storm Trooper - Gaming Full Tower Computer Case with Handle and External 2.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: It’s so huge, that I installed a 312mm by 140mm top mounted push radiator after an ATX mother board had already being installed. Being able to hide the cables, makes for a really clean look and allows for some great cooling solutions. Air flow blockage is not a problem. Long video cards are not a problem. And the location of the USB 3.0 and 2.0, fan controller, reset and power button on the top of the case is just simply convenient.

Cons: The one egg ding is because the built-in carrying hand is not mounted above the center-of-gravity of the fully built out computer. The handle is about an inch forward of the center of gravity. This is annoying, but does not pose a great problem in carrying the computer. My completed computer weights 51.5 lbs.

Other Thoughts: My Computer Configuration is:
Computer Case: Cooler Master - Storm Trooper - SGC-5000-KKN1
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6
Processor: i7-4930K
Memory: G.SKILL Trident X 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 - 2400 - F3-2400C10Q-32GTX
Video Card: EVGA GTX 580 - 03G-P4-1584-RB
Wireless Network Card: TRENDnet 300Mbps 802.11n - TEW-623PI V3.OR
Hard Drive: Seagate 3TB SATA 3 - ST3000DM001 (4 each)
Blu-Ray Burner: LG - WH14NS40
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series - H110
Radiator Fans: GELID - Wing 14 – FN-FW14B-12 (2 each)
Power Supply: Corsair AX1200i

ASRock X79 Extreme6 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

4 out of 5 eggs A quality mobo designed for overclocking. 01/06/2014

This review is from: ASRock X79 Extreme6 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: The motherboard is built well. ASRock shipped the mobo with the latest bios installed and their CD came with latest versions of the drivers and utilities. Unfortunately for me when I got around to installing the mobo the bios and all the drivers had later versions. Fortunately ASRock’s website is easy to navigate and downloading new bios, drivers and utilities is easy. And the updating the bios is a breeze.

Cons: The one egg ding is because the motherboard did not have GUID for the 1394 stored in the prom. I needed to write down the mobo’s GUID and run fwguid.exe to store the GUID. ASRock should have done this during its manufacturing process. The boot process would fail with the following error “1394 GUID are invalid in both CMOS and Flash!” until the GUID was set. To read about this problem and its fix search for the error message and read about it at "tom’s HARDWARE".

The UEFI documentation has really small screen shot images of the UEFI pages. Really tough to read. But fortunately the actual UEFI interface is rather intuitive.

And I still have not found the XFast RAM driver for Windows 8.1. But with 32GBs of DDR3-2400 memory, I not sure I’m missing much.
