Pros: This is a fantastic laptop with great specs and awesome versatility with the ultrabay using the included 2nd graphics card, combo optical drive or even an additional hard drive, not to mention the internal components which can be upgraded by the more tech savvy.
NOTE: THIS LAPTOP HAS DUAL VIDEO CARDS, ONE OF WHICH IS USING THE ULTRABAY WHERE A CD/DVD/BD DRIVE WOULD NORMALLY BE. Don't purchase and then gripe because there is no optical drive. Read the specs.
It ships with Windows 8, and it's a great OS once you learn how to use it. Don't dock eggs from your review because you don't understand how to use the OS or have your negative opinions about Win8. Again, read the specs before buying and complaining about what's included, please.
Cons: The touchpad is touchy and hard to use right out of the box (OOB) because of the multigesture (pinch, expand, two-finger operations) settings. These are set the way they are to make Windows 8 easier to use without a touchscreen. However, you can easily adjust those OOB touchpad settings through the control panel's mouse settings.
If you can't find the Control Panel OOB, you can add it to the desktop by customizing which icons appear on the desktop the same way you did in Windows 7. Or, from the desktop, use your keyboard and hold the Windows key and hit the 'R' key (then release the keys) to bring up the 'Run" box, and type 'control' and hit the 'Enter' key. Afterward, just go down to your hardware/devices area to change the mouse settings according to your preferences.
Un-needed bloatware (pre-installed software by Lenovo) can be removed through the control panel's 'Programs' area if you'd like to get rid of any pre-installed software.
Otherwise, I found this to be an outstanding laptop!
Other Thoughts: I beg everyone reviewing products you purchase/review at Newegg to please stop giving negative reviews about products because you don't like Windows 8 or don't like a feature of the product you didn't understand (such as dual video cards with one using the space normally used by an optical drive) before purchasing. Ask questions before buying or double check the specifications, please, because those kinds of negative reviews unfairly impact product rankings and search result rankings for others looking for good products such as this laptop. Thanks.
And thanks in advance, Newegg, for doing something to weed out illegitimate or unrelated negative reviews from products to make your site easier to use, search, and buy good products. (hint, hint) :-)
This review is from: SAMSUNG Series 7 XE700T1A-A05US 11.6-inch Slate
Pros: Excellent speed and accessories when compared with other Win7 slates. Runs all my Windows programs with ease. Has Win7 Pro, so it can join domains/participate in work networks if you'd like. great compatibility, great touch interface Samsung loaded. It's Windows, so it's customizable - load Thinix or another Win7 touch-enabled program if you don't like Samsung's.
Cons: The only con is battery life, depending on what you're doing - the same as with any other portable tablet/device out there. Running Angry Birds side-by-side with my iPad v1, the battery life is the same (used up in around 2 hours). The Core i5 CPU in this is not a monster, but it uses more power than an ARM chip, again, depending on your workload.
Other Thoughts: The Egg needs to work on their descriptions, especially when two products appear side-by-side with the same specs and differing prices. The -A05 version comes preloaded with Win7 Professional, NOT Home Premium (get the -A01 instead).
Otherwise, this plus the docking station is great at work for running around the office for meetings or whatever. Dock it when I'm at my desk and type away on the bluetooth keyboard, then grab it and go for a few hours away from the desk, using OneNote, Outlook, and other apps - even giving presentations with the mini-HDMI connector - and then back to my desk or home where I can use it to play.
