Zalman ZM-MC1 Multi-connector PS to Add Fan

5 out of 5 eggs Simple thing that works 07/21/2016

This review is from: Zalman ZM-MC1 Multi-connector PS to Add Fan

Pros: Slowed my 80 mm fans down on my HTPC. I can watch TV without the whirl of the fans as background noise.
Zalman, so they work.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Great way to silence a loud system with 80 mm fans for sure. However, be careful not to slow the fans to the point where the system suffers from heat. Of course we all know that.

Pros: Recently I moved my computer from its mid-tower to an slim Silverstone 04B HTPC case. To my dismay I was assembling and I went to put my blu-ray optical drive in and my old PSU was too large for the case. After a day of hard research I found out that Silverstone makes what they call a "SFX" Form factor. So I ordered it. 4 days later, it arrived. I opened the box and it is barely 3" deep compared to my old 6.5" deep PSU. This enabled me to easily put in my blu-ray and PSU. Plus with it being 80 plus, and with 1 strong 12v rail, it's definately noticeable in how my computer performs. Compared to my old unit from 7 years ago.

Cons: The only ding I can give this product is that the two main leads to the motherboard, the 8-pin and the 24-pin were borderlining too short to fit my application. But if it needed extensions Newegg has them. But I was able to get everything moved around cable wise. As it ages the cables will also "loosen". Just not used to a new PSU.

Other Thoughts: Unless you plan to use the 3rd bay on the Silverstone 04B HTPC case for a HDD, this isn't really for you. But for the comfort of knowing you have plenty of room in a small form factor case, this definately is required. I wish I had ordered it when I bought the case instead of it being a reactionary purchase. But it's all together now and runs fine.

SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel ML04B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

4 out of 5 eggs Measure everything. Again and again 06/11/2016

This review is from: SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel ML04B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Looks good on the entertainment stand I have it on. My rig transferred over into it relatively easy

Cons: Room. Measure your Optical rom before buying. Then your PSU. Factor in the connector cables. I bought a Small form factor PSU now due to this room issue.

Other Thoughts: Plan everything you buy to place a computer in this case. It's meant to be small. Plan small. 2 hard drives, 3 if you have no Optical drive. No PSU deeper than 5.5" I'd go even smaller with one of Silverstone's micro ATX PSU. Ensure a good fit. Also, watch out for your CPU cooler. Tall ones won't fit. Period. I bought the Noctua NH-l9A to do this..
