Good Deal for the Money

TOSHIBA Laptop Satellite Intel Pentium T3400 2GB Memory 160GB HDD Intel GMA 4500M 15.4" Windows Vista Home Premium L305-S5921
TOSHIBA Laptop Satellite Intel Pentium T3400 2GB Memory 160GB HDD Intel GMA 4500M 15.4" Windows Vista Home Premium L305-S5921

Pros: I've owed it for about two months. I like the screen. It flickers a bit when I do a quick scroll but nothing I can't live with. The key board feels good. I like the volume wheel on the front of the computer once I got used to the fact it was there. It's a nice time saver. You can put 4GB of ram in this computer, but if you do 1 of them will be used for video etc and Windows will only show 3 left to be used.

Cons: If I have one gripe with this computer it's that they put the backup files on the C drive. It cost you 20 GB of space on your HD for the life of the computer however and if you don't realize that they are there, you could loose them if the HD quits before you burn your own CD's. This feels to me like they are being pretty cheap on their part. I'm still not sure what to think of Vista. The virus/firewall I was using crashed the system and I had to re-do the system over with the back up files. It's seems to me that people are having a bit of a problem creating software for Vista. Having used Zone Alarm for years I'm not that put off as some are by the constant questions whether I want continue doing what I’m doing to my computer. I tried to wipe the HD clear and load XP but something in the system files wouldn't let me. I'm not sure why but my impression was something in the start-up bios files wouldn't allow me to do it.

Overall Review: I run Photo Shop CSII and Coreldraw and have three windows open on the Internet at the same time without any problems. Sometimes I wonder what people are complaining about. This computer doesn't have all the bells and whistles I guess but perhaps we're gotten our expectations too high for what we are paying for things. It wasn't so long ago people would have gladly paid $1000.00 for a machine like this and been glad to do so. If I had one wish for this computer it would be for 4 USB ports.

Most Critical Review

Support is clueless

Creative ZEN 2.5" Black 8GB MP3 / MP4 Player
Creative ZEN 2.5" Black 8GB MP3 / MP4 Player

Pros: It turns on. It shows pictures albeit rather slowly and with OK clarity.

Cons: It doesn't recognize music when I download it into the unit. Good luck getting a manual off the internet. I've looked and looked everywhere. Google nor Creatives own sites are of no help. The people who run Creative must be to be clueless. Apples position as the leader in MP3's is totally safe at this point. It is slow to run through pictures. The camera that took them is 10x faster at showing them.

Overall Review: I've owned three other Creative Players and I've never had trouble getting any of them to play music before. I've hunted for over an hour and have been unsuccessful at getting a manual. Usually a 3 minute process with most companies.

Would buy it again

TOSHIBA Laptop Satellite AMD A8-3520M 6GB Memory 750GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6620G 17.3" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit P775D-S7144
TOSHIBA Laptop Satellite AMD A8-3520M 6GB Memory 750GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6620G 17.3" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit P775D-S7144

Pros: The first time I opened the lid, it came across to me as impressively engineered and well though out from the ground up. It definitely looks better sitting in front of you than it does in the picture on the New Egg’s webpage. I really like how with a few well-placed buttons, you can turn and off the sound, Ethernet card, touch pad and adjust the volume etc. This is the first laptop I’ve used that has enough volume to be heard across a full sized public classroom without a ton of distortion. It's just a tad heavier than my three-year-old 15" Toshiba laptop and about 1/3 thinner. I was pleased to see that the USB ports are really tight; when it's five years old, I won't have to worry about them becoming too loose to work. Set up was a breeze. The hinges on the lid seem substantial and keep the screen in place without any major flexing when you open and close the lid. It handles a second monitor via VHS or HDMI without any hesitation. The display seems totally fine to me.

Cons: The charger seems a bit under-powered for a laptop this big. I bought a 12 cell extra thick battery and it seems to take forever to charge it up. No one seems to do it anymore, but I still wish they would give up restore discs like they used to instead of making us burn them.

Overall Review: The keyboard seem well built but is rather smooth and perhaps even slippery. I'm not sure it that will be a problem for most people or not. I usually use an external keyboard so it won't be much of a factor to me. It's pretty long;16 1/4". It will just will barely fit in my extra tall backpack. I did find it odd that I had to hunt for the Microsoft Internet Explorer Icon among the program files. Always before it's been a part of the start menu. Now that I’ve had a chance to use it, I can say without hesitation that I would buy it again if I had the opportunity to redo my decision. I always think of New-Egg first whenever I need something of an electronic nature. Their prices are low and their shipping procedures are the best in the business. Period. I had an unusual shipping situation and they were able to resolve it for me unlike another well known seller that wouldn't even try.

Best of the Best

Mushkin Enhanced Mulholland 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDMH32GB
Mushkin Enhanced Mulholland 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDMH32GB

Pros: I've owned thumb drives from virtually all the major manufacturers and in my mind, from now on, my first thought is always going to be mushkin even if it cost 20% more. They are tough, fast, the right size, and seem to last forever. I can't say the same about any other drive I've owned.

Cons: None

Overall Review: None

Great LCD screen

SAMSUNG NF310-A01 Intel Atom N550(1.50 GHz) 10.1" 1GB DDR3 Memory 250GB HDD Netbook
SAMSUNG NF310-A01 Intel Atom N550(1.50 GHz) 10.1" 1GB DDR3 Memory 250GB HDD Netbook

Pros: I don't think you'll do any better in regard to a LCD screen. You can read the screen at "any" angle you physically are able to without any loss of resolution. I was able to run three video (Flash-Player) web pages at the same time. It's not as fast as a normal laptop but then a net-book really isn't supposed to be I guess. I can have a web page open and run Word and Excel at the same time with out any issues. The keyboard seems very usable and the touch pad is better than any I've used which is saying something as I always hate them and will only use them if I have to. The speakers seem loud for such a small unit. It updated to Windows 7 without any loss of programs or data. It up-dated the drivers as well without me have to do them manually. I probably will up-grade the memory to two GB eventually but it runs Window 7 Home Premium with no real issues with 1 GB in my opinion. I'm not a game person so I have no idea how it does in that regard. Hooking up to the net was easy.

Cons: For $399.99 it really should come with 2 GB of ram. Not really too big a deal as it can be purchased for about $22.00. In Korea they sell these in the stores for about $550.00. I guess getting it for $299.99 on special at New Egg was a better deal than I realized at the time.

Overall Review: I loaded Windows 7 Home Premium and I'd say if anything it seemed to make it faster. Home Basic would allow me to duplicate the main screen onto another monitor but not extend it so it so I could have two different screens. With the Home Premium upgrade it handles two screens fine. It's a bit thicker than most net-books on one end. I was able to pick up an extra battery for it at an auction house for about $36.00. When it comes to buying electronic devices, my first thought is always New Egg. They are like machines when it comes to shipping things out in a timely manner if it is to the same address as the billing address on your credit card.

A real dud; Adata support was a reall dud too.

ADATA Superior Series 32GB S102 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Titanium Gray) Model AS102-32G-RGY
ADATA Superior Series 32GB S102 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Titanium Gray) Model AS102-32G-RGY

Pros: Size is a plus; It's thin enough to fit along side any other USB devices.

Cons: A got one of Adata's duds that runs like a dog. It feels like it's running in version 1.1. It says it will take 10 hours to copy a file that normally take 15 minute to finish. It usually runs below 5mb/s Adata said they would send me a file to do a low level reformat but never did. I tried numerous times to call them back but the line is always busy. They also failed to respond to my email as well. I had good luck with a Mutholland in the past. I regret not buying another one of theirs even if it was more expensive.

Overall Review: All manufacturers have their duds. What separates the men from the boys is how they take care of business when things don't go as planned. So far Adata is in my doghouse.
