Acer Laptop Aspire E5-573G-59C3 Intel Core i5 5200U (2.20 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce 940M 15.6
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: It really is light compared to my 4 year old desktop replacement, and just as fast.

Cons: Ubuntu 15.04 does not yet quite support the wifi on this laptop (see ).

Chrome hasn't figured out how to use the multitouch trackpad smoothly yet.

No LED on caps lock or numlock?

Other Thoughts: Good deal at $530

ASUS VW266H Black 25.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Worked fine as a 1920x1280 workstation monitor

Cons: Started locking up if left on while not in use after four years. (Oddly, this coincided with installing Ubuntu 14.04. Perhaps the way that blanks the screen stresses the monitor out.) I now have to press the power off button before leaving, else I have to power cycle the monitor when I get back to it eight hours later. Happens every time.

2 out of 5 eggs Fan making horrible honking noise :-( 02/02/2012

This review is from: PNY GeForce GT 220 VCGGT2201XEB-S 1GB 128-Bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: Worked fine for a couple years

Cons: Fan started making horrible honking noise

Other Thoughts: If I had registered within 90 days it would still be in warranty and I could get them to fix it. As it is, I'm going to have to try to fix it myself. It's a sealed fan, so I'm going to have to drill a hole to add oil (as suggested on the nvidia forum under "GeForce 8400GS low-profile fan oiling/lubrication?".
