This review is from: Energy Power12 Sub 12" 150W Front-Firing Rear Ported Subwoofer (Black)
Pros: This thing really does have a nice loud bass. It shakes our house pretty well. It is now in a fairly large room, and performes better than expected, expecially for a 150 W sub. I would buy this again at the price I paid - $99 (150 less 50 rebate). If the price was over 150, I would opt for the BIC F-12, Those are very good subs as well. Again, I am really happy with this sub for the $99, 150w category. As others have said, it is quite small for a good 12" sub, but small is relative; it is HUGE compaired to an 8" sub if that's what your used to, so keep that in mind.
Cons: The sound is a little muddy, expecially at full volume. I don't like the sound of the speaker at full volume (meaning the sub turned all the way up, not the amp turned all the way up). It would be nice to have a clearer sound coming from the speaker, but hey, it was $99, it sounds great for that price.
Other Thoughts: I use pretty much only use this for movies. I don't know if I'd want much more bass than this speaker puts out (again, a clearer bass would be nice). This speaker does not have a LOT of excursion, but I kind'a like that as it doesn't sound too airy. I like the slot port, no chuffing.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: The volume is okay for most of my needs and I think they look great. Polk has absolutely fantastic cust service. The sound is nice and bright. Great for music.
Cons: They have very little bass / low end. I have these hooked up with a 12" sub-woofer, and I still don't think these have enough bass because it's not the full sound spectrum one should expect from a tower speaker. They do get loud enough for my needs, but actually not as loud as I would have expected them to. I am pushing them @ 100 Watts per, so I guess if I gave them more power I would get more out of them.
Other Thoughts: I got these on sale for $70 each here at Newegg. They are not bad for the price. Overall, I wish I had purchased a larger set (like the Klipsh F-20's that went on sale for $90 the day after I purchased these) for those times when I want the movie really loud, and I know they put out a "fuller" sound. I have these as my front L / R. They would be perfect for the rear speakers if that is what you are looking for.
Of note: One grill was slightly cracked; I called Polk, they shipped me a new one right away, and included another one for backup (they retail for $35 ea). That's 2 new grills at no cost. Right on Polk!
